Default The LONG and SHORT Cowl Band...

Does anyone know just when and why FORD changed the length of the Cowl Band? Is it stated in the MARC/MAFCA RG's and JS's anywhere?

Thanks.

They don't interchange do they? I think the bottom cowl bead differs. Are there three types? The early bands had additional clips to hold then onto the tanks.

Steve,

I do not believe it is covered in the Standards.

My early 30 Coupe uses the later cowl band; the reveal at the bottom is short to accomodate the longer band, however the cowl sides each have two (2) square punched holes, never used, which would have been used to attach the early cowl band.
I believe there is also a difference to the inside of the cowl to attach the angle stud of the later cowl band, the earlier cowl band was attached with a straight stud thru the bottom square punched hole ?

Don't have a firm when answer but I think why is pretty easy. The later type is a much easier installation and easier to get it tight. The early one requires installing the tank clips and cowl carriage bolts. The later type needs only two nuts and adjusts by tightening the nuts, all in one operation.

I've been watching out for a decent 31 cowl band
...they seem scarce...
