Oh, but what if "unwound" while you were driving ?

( It might fling the wheels off'n it ! )

Realize this has been a dead thread for quite some time.... but I actually have one of these I bought like 30 years ago.
I'm in central PA... it was probably at Hershey or Carlisle Where I bought it... among lots of other stuff.

I knew these were rare and the backstory was really cool... seems like there's literally only a few out in the wild.

(I think most of them were sent back to the factory and re-melted/molded)

I am glad you found this thread and posted this information. I do hope this axle ends up in the museum along with whatever information on the back-story can be found. It's a fine example of Ford's salesmanship techniques.

A few years back someone had a bunch of them at Turlock
they were twisted in all configurations
straight twist, one side twisted one way ,the other side twisted the other way
it really shortened the axle so they wernt useable

I saw a picture of a gentleman selling them at the turlock swap meet. I'll try to find the pics.

I've always thought one would be great on the front of a Front Engine Dragster.

It was on the other site. Tons of pics. The axles are the 9th, and 10th pic down.

believe it's a '34 axle from the 34 world fair.
Anyone is an authority on these... please feel free to comment as to if that's correct and/or how rare these actually are and perhaps what it's worth if i were to ever sell it?

Not sure my intentions for it... just decided to look up some info on it and stumbled across this board. Way back when, we didn't have the internet to find this stuff :0

wouldnt let me upload pics... so i attached a link to photobucket with a few pics I snapped of it.

Also here's a video I found a while back of them doing something similar at a trade show: 7:24 mark is when they twist axels
