1946-1948 truck rear-end with 9" axles and brakes
I have a '46-'48 Ford truck center-section that I'd like to use with a set of '48 axle tubes and redo the tubes to take the Ford 9" axles and brakes. Hot Rod Works makes a kit for doing it but was wondering if anyone on here had done it without using the Kit from Hot Rod Works.
I can get the Axles,Brakes and the ends off a 9" Truck rear-end for around a $100.00. I can also get the axles cut down and re-splined for around $150.00. That just leaves the custom spider gears. I have a set of banjo axles with the gears on the end. Could those be cut off and machined to take the spline on the 9" axle? Thanks, Dutch

From looking at the HRW webite it seems that there's a lot of special technical work required to do what you want. Giove HRW a call and discuss what you want to do.

Re: 1946-1948 truck rear-end with 9" axles and brakes
silly question-why not just go with a 9" rear axle from 60's/70's Ford pick-up or even an open drive unit from a 48-up Ford pick-up-has the brakes you are trying to get

Re: 1946-1948 truck rear-end with 9" axles and brakes
I have the '46-'48Truck centersecton and the the '46-'48 passenger axle tubes and axles. I also have stock brakes for them that need total rebuilding. I was just thinking it would be better to switch to the stronger 9" axles and the better 9" brakes. From Hot Rod Works web site I think the most I'd need would be their custom axle/spider gears. I'll give them a call and see.
