Gold or Bronze was the car color. 1952 Henry is correct, red.

Dupli-color Ford Red looks good.

Check out Bill Hirsch for paint - excellent quality and correct color/shade

http://www.hirschauto.com/departments.asp?dept=2

The drop down for color/size provides all the colors for al the years

Oops!

After my post, I went to the Hirsch site and they don't list the red for '51 F-1, only the bronze used in cars. Red is the correct color.

I made that mistake and followed the Hirsch chart. I painted it Bronze and had to paint it red afterwards.

Actually, it's only a 2-point deduction for an incorrect engine color. If bronze appeals over red, use bronze. After all, most of these aren't show trucks. I know mine sure isn't...

Probably Insignificant but my unmolested 52 F1 is green. It has the correct heads and pan from what I can tell. (all apart)

thanks guys ...its red for me but here in the u.k I might have a problem getting the correct engine paint in this colour (different spelling to yours),-green no problem but not many ford v.8 parts dealers over here and the stock is nothing like the u.s suppliers so chances are they wont have red in stock...if all else fails would I get away with normal red metal paint for the engine block regarding the heat ? we are not allowed to ship paint to here from there , cheers jim.

The '51 F3 I did several years ago had a green very close to Detroit Diesel color on the bellhousing. which I have every reason to believe was original. It is not the same green as was used in the earlier cars. The engine was red but had come out of a car. The drop down for Hirsch does not separate the cars form the trucks in colors

In 52 the truck engines were (Lincoln) green. Not to say a late 51 wouldn't have been green.

37coop,
When you see "red" as the description of the color it may not mean "red". There are about a jillion shades of "red" just look at fire trucks for instance. Almost every department has their own particular shade. The 49-51 8RT engines I have worked on have been a fairly dark shade of red that I don't find easily approximated by "Ford Red" engine paint selections; they are all too bright. Perhaps years of oil, fuel varnish, and grease darkened the original color, I don't know. Since you are UK, check out "MG maroon" engine paint color; its not a dark maroon and is fairly close in shade to the paint I have seen on several of these engines upon dismantling and cleaning (engines that appear to have never been apart with date coded Ford bearings). Not exact mind you but a lot closer than the bight red engine paint intended for Y-blocks and some Falcon/Fairlane engines...
