Default Orientation of Grease Baffles?

Hi:

When removing the backing plates on my early 28 tudor I noticed the grease baffles had the open part towards the backing plate as opposed to when I look at photos in the tech books and catalogues the open part is towards the drum. i.e. flat part against the backing plate. Which way is correct?

The open part should face the drum.
