Default Restorer Magazine

I'm looking for the November/December issue. Has anyone received it yet?

Dangerous question to ask. Last time I posted that, about six months ago, I got flamed, insulted, and attacked. Those guys are seemingly not here any more. At least, I don't see any posts from any of them. Maybe Ryan flushed them down the toilet.

Oh, and I haven't received mine yet either.

Once again...Ray is right, this is a dangerous question.

However a little history for those of you not in the know.

It used to be up until about 1-1/2 years ago that The Restorer (MAFCA) was delivered on "odd" months (JAN/MAR/MAY/JULY/SEPT/NOV) and Model A News (MARC) on "even" months (FEB/APR/JUNE/AUG/OCT/DEC).

The Restorer is still being received, at least by me, on those "odd" months so be patient, it will get to you. However, Model A News, has been a little slower than in the past. So please be patient there also. Well worth the wait on both of these great Model A magizines.

Yes indeed a dangerous question Ray, and I recall the abuse you took over that Thought it was pretty harsh and yes the culprits who attacked you are probably 'down the toilet' now as you say

Jeff, the abuse in the forum was small compared to the PMs I got. But I have a pretty thick skin, having run my own business for 37 years. I never reported it or complained to Ryan about it, but the critics are no longer here. Maybe they just got tired of pissing in the punchbowl. Or maybe not. I notice someone rated this thread as "terrible." I obviously disagree. I think it is a fair topic to discuss.

I wonder how this will go over..

I was told a long time ago by one of the Publishers that the erratic delivery is the USPSs fault. He stated that it's all in how and when they choose to deliver that grade of item.

Don't know if I believe this. What really would be nice, if they haven't in the past, would be to post here on the Barn about their delivery schedules.

Nothing wrong with this subject!

My issue arrived yesterday. - Eureka, California

. . . But I expect that they mail out the earlier copies to the older members . . . those who are old enough to be at risk of not being around for a late arrival.

It's not their "fault". Periodical mail is a "as space provides" delivery. The rate is way lower then first class. To get this discount the publisher agrees to have it delivered when there is space available on the "truck". The cost for postage of a single magazine is about 30 cents up to a pound in weight as compared to first class with is 49 cents the first ounce and 22 cents each additional ounce.

You are right Mike . Have been in the Mailing and Bookbinding Trade for over 45 years nothing has changed but the Cost to mail.

That's not hard to figure. The government expects a payment of $5.5 billion so as to have enough money in "savings" to handle all the retirement and healthcare of the USPS for the next 75 years. Yes, the government wants the USPS to pay now for the retirement of employees not yet born.

The amount of mail to be delivered has fallen by a third since 2005, but the number of places that the mail has to be delivered has gone up. Salaries have gone up, gas, fuel and so on and so on have only gone up since 2005.

Mail pieces, down
Number of mail stops, up
Expenses, up

The US is still the cheapest country for the delivery of mail.

The difference in arrival times across the country could be based on the fact that the printer presorts and ships bundles to the PO based on ZIP codes. Another factor is that the PO has combined sorting centers and that can add time to delivery. If I send a letter to a neighbor down the street on Monday and the carrier picks it up after 3 PM, chances are it will arrive Thursday since it has to go to Albuquerque and then back.

Having own a mail order company, the PO is the greatest thing since sliced bread. An overnight FedEx package from Durango to San Diego cost me $93.00. The exact same package Priority Mail with two day delivery was $13.00

Not true. As an example, to send a small package (500g or 17.64 oz or less) from the USA to Germany via the USPS it cost $17.91 via their International First Class Mail service.

However to send the same weight package (500g or 17.64oz or less) the other direction, from Germany to the USA via the Deutsche Post, that only costs 3,45 Euro ($3.72 at today's exchange rate).

As another example, to send that same small package with "Registered Mail" it costs $13.95 extra from the USA to Germany via the USPS. Going the other way, the same package sent as "Registered Mail" ("Einschreiben") cost only 2,15 Euro extra ($2.32 at today's exchange rate) via the Deutsche Post.

Not sure how the German Deutsche Post is able to deliver their mail to the USA at more than 5 time less cost than it takes for the US Postal Service to deliver the mail to Germany....somehow the Deutsche Post seems to be able to stay in business despite their good value shipping rates!

Keeping with the required Model A forum theme, this is obviously a USPS truck - no funding for maintanance! (MAFCA web page photo)

Thank you Stewart for saving this truck with privatized funding

Fordially,

I would pay an unseemly and ridiculous amount of money to own that mail truck.

Received mine today....good articles. If I was a member of the Alamo A's, I'd be hanging around the ladies who run their Fashion Dept!!!!!

I like The Restorer mag until I get to the end and then disappointment sets in every time when I start seeing all the As for sale and I say, I want that one and that one and that one and...might as well throw in that one too.

Maybe someday both Sarah and I will be on the front cover driving down old Illinois Route 66 or 67, along the River Road or maybe even through a Calhoun County holler!!!! Ya never know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I received mine today, but it was the September- October issue. Called the director of membership. And he told me that the November- December issue wouldn't be sent out till early December. He said the person who was a head of this was sick and that's why ever thing was backed up. I had so much stuff going on that I didn't realize I didn't get my September- October issue. Am I missing something here?

This month was frustrating for many. For some reason the US Post Office decided to take their own sweet time delivering some Restorers (mine included, I got it yesterday). All Nov/Dec Restorers were taken to the post Office on Oct 26. John Lavoy, editor of The Model A Times, told me the post Office has 28 days to deliver magazines and any person with in the postal system can hold it for 5 days for any reason. If any of you haven’t received your copy after the 28 days (around Nov 25) let me know by emailing at [email protected] and I’ll make sure everything is corrected. Remember, it’s a holiday week so if we are a bit slow, please understand. And thanks for your support and understanding.

I'm honored that a picture of our 68C made the cover this issue! We had a great time in Colorado.
