Default Re: Convert to 12 volt or not?

I've run good silvered lights and turn signals with four tail lights and 6 volt (w/alt) has worked to 30 years. No need to switch everything over.

I love my old original positive ground 6-V system and original generator on my 1930 coupe. And, I have no need for hooking up 12-V accessories like to charge the cell phone or anything in the car. I have other old cars with 6-V systems and have had no problems with them either. As I understand it, you just need to be sure the battery cables, e.g., to the starter, are of adequate size to carry the increased amperage at the lower 6 volts. I have ample power at my starter and love the old 6 volt slow starter turning-over sound. Actually, on a well maintained engine you won't need more than a couple compression strokes to fire it off anyway.
