Default Bendigo swap next weekend

Oz/s biggest swap meet is on next weekend.

Not a Hershey of course, but it is the best we do.

Main day saturday, with about 60 % left on sunday.

Ballarat swap was touted to be bigger, but it shut down as from last year.

Bendigo has style, I think it is the best inland city in OZ, and was built during the gold rush of the 1850/s and has an undergound working gold mine that actually has shafts under the city and has guided tours.

They purpose built a modern elevator for tourists down to the third level, and when I went a few years back, the elevator was out of service and they sent us down in the miner's cages.

Is a real experience. doing the tour while the miners fly past the third level in the cages as it rings a bell.

It is sited on an old showgound with old tin sheds, a central grassed track/arena and a lot of outdoor dusty sites.

Here's the link with slideshow.

Each year I do a one week pilgrimage in my winnebago.

First year I went was 1979.

I'll be there on Saturday. It's one of the highlights of the year, although being invaded with useless bric a brac.
Must remember the hat and sunscreen although the forecast is for showers.
I heard Ballarat is going to continue.

It wasn't dusty last year, in some areas around the back of the oval, I almost needed mud chains for my boots. Bendigo always seems to have extremes in the weather, you either fry or drown. Will be there on Saturday. One thing I've noticed is that there seems to be selling trends in car types, one year, I saw a lot of veteran Buicks, then it was vintage Dodges etc.

Hey you're SO lucky to have a swap meet to attend. Everything's wrapped up Canada...just waiting for the snow.
Great slide show on your link by the way, you guy's seem to have plenty of wooden wheel cars...I like them too!
I suppose that's hardrock mining under the city, or do you know if by some chance they're working deep bedrock for placer gold? I would LOVE to go down into that mine!
I've seen pictures of placer nuggets from Australia the size of chicken Mcnuggets.
Apparently recent improvements in deep-seeking metal detectors has made nugget shooting a popular & profitable pastime in Australia, with mini safari's going into the outback digging around with aid of these high powered detectors that go down over 2 feet.
Sign me up for that one too if I ever get over there.

oops...sorta got off track from Model A's...sorry boys.
I spent a few years sluicing & dredging in rivers and occassionally get gold fever flashbacks.

Keep hearing Ballarat council wants to sell off airport for development and it is still cancelled.

Ballarat swap was big, but a little boring, as it was on an old airstrip and flat as a tack and treeless, and just straight long rows after another in a wide open paddock..
