Hey Keith,
Well, I think that you are observant ! At least , you got me to take closer look at my posted picture. Although not my A block, but belongs to someone that I know, it can be improved in that gasket area. After making the block VERY clean in that area, JB Weld would restore the broken out gasket surface. But, this area is not critical for sealing as bottom of valve chamber. |

The car could be using one of those distributors driven off the timing gear. I saw a setup like this on an A400 for sale at Pate Swap meet last year. It was a neat set up.
