Depending on the condition I'd say whoever bought it got a deal. JMO

Re: Nice 180A just sold on the bay
Some one got a deal at 19 on that. It was a nice car, there was just a lot that wasn't "right" about it. But none the less, it was a real good deal at 19.

Re: Nice 180A just sold on the bay
Timothy, it sold- that is what final bid is. However, in your defense, I only see about 60% of sales on the bay complete. The reserve was lifted.

Re: Nice 180A just sold on the bay
It says "winning bid". When something fails to meet reserve it says so as well as "current bid". Looking at issues evident in the pics I suspect the owner/seller had a realistic view of it's value and was ready to be done with it.

Ah notice the oil spots on the floor, it would be right at home with my '29 coupe & '29 pickup. Does anyone know what the commission to sell a car on ebay is? tried finding it on their web site with no luck, regular items is 10%

Re: Nice 180A just sold on the bay
Hold,
commission on any car over 2000. is around 125. after selling 6 cars, the price drops to 50. each that does not count, reserve or buy it now fees or extra format or pictures, just basic pricing. A great deal if selling a 100,000. car and not such a great deal for a 2100. car....... |

Re: Nice 180A just sold on the bay
Goodness...The body tag at 159-1322 fits into the June 30 Assembly date, one of the first ones out and since the French 180A in NH claiming 159-528 is now known to be a fabrication (see photo of "Murray" body tag), after Ross Milne's car, this is one of the earliest one's. Given that, the re-muddling, from what I can see of the sills, and the alignment of the doors and body lines, is going to require another body off episode to get the kinks out of it. Hmmmmm. I am thinking that $18K is just too much even for a driver. It should be a lesson to those who want one, restoring the 180A is only for someone with a lot of time...and money...but then, if you have wanted one of these little girls, you better go for it. I've spent ten years on mine now...the cost???? well, how bad do you want one?
Oh...BTW whoever got it, and if you are reading this...make sure you get the OEM inside door handles and pedal plates...you can restore those easily....That gearshift stick looks like it might be the original finish. Also replace the springs in the door latches...that will pull the door handles back into place... |

As an old restoration driver it is overpriced. After another restoration he will never in his lifetime get his money out of it ! He should have bid with his brain instead of his heart !

Re: Nice 180A just sold on the bay
If we did everything with our brain instead of our heart, none of us would be wasting money on old metal. We'd put the cash in our retirement account and enjoy the fruits of time instead of fixing these old clunkers and come to dinner with dirty hands.
I argue that things we do with our heart are the things worth living for. |

Re: Nice 180A just sold on the bay
12 bidders on the car and the winner looked like a snipe bid in the final seconds of the auction. That means also that he bid higher ( toss in a higher figure, maybe $25K who knows) but he edged out the losing bidder by the required difference to win the car. He was prepared to pay more.
That being said, both seller and bidder were happy. The car sold. And from looking at the photos I believe he got a good deal. How many 180-A's are running around? Kind of a rare body style and very desirable. Naw, I think the buyer did well. |

Re: Nice 180A just sold on the bay
update- buyer bailed- I offered to buy the car, but was told there are other interested parties, so I am bowing out.
Would imagine it will be re-listed or may even get listed here.......... get your checkbooks ready! |

Re: Nice 180A just sold on the bay
Did the top bid bail, or was the top bid a shill?
I've had a few "second chance offers", but never respond to them because I feel I was bidding against a shill. |

Re: Nice 180A just sold on the bay
I ,,not knowing too much about 180A's would say the car fits about the correct price of $19,000.00 ..First its a "DRIVER" .... It might be a correct body ???? Some were made out in California years and years ago... [REPRODUCTIONS]. rear floor is a made up one to start... Second you go through getting the body here , having it restored and you forget to put the door floor ZINC sills on??? They get nailed from the bottom up..under the body...Way too many reproduction parts on car [mirror for one ] I have NEVER seen this car around even tho i live 20 minutes away...not that i know where they all are but most of the 180A's ...I Do... I know of 5 in a 30 mile circle ...there were 7...2 were sold in the past year. Ask yourself this ..what would a Deluxe Roadster sell for in this shape...???i had sold a body for $4,500.00 3 years ago and nothing else no floor ,no gas tank , no seats ,, just the cowl , 2 skin metal doors and rear body that you can fold in 3.... Today that body is a super ROD..

Re: Nice 180A just sold on the bay
Dont think the bidder was a shill-was in Arkansas and decided too far away.
Buyers remorse is always present when the purchase is somewhat large. I estimate no more then 60% of all cars sold on the bay actually are consummated. at 19k, I feel this was a very good deal, even if not a "Perfect" car by any means. unrestored and non running they tend to bring 20k. |
