Question Looking for more value advice

I found a 30 Dlx. Coupe in Hemming's. My main concern on the value is the repro parts on it. Both frnt fenders are repro(steel). The guy said they fit well. All the bumpers are stainless. The dash guage cluster is repro. Obviously the shift knob, pedals and temp guage are after market. He told me the color scheme is correct for a Roadster but not a Coupe. He has all receipts from recent engine rebuild. New engine has apprx. 1000 miles on it. Nice Lebaron-Bonney interior and new wiring. It is missing the vacuum wiper. I also asked him if the emerg. brake worked & he said it did. The wood under the rear tire was just a precaution. Assuming(I know you're not supposed to do that) the under carriage is okay-what do you experts think on a value? A plus for me is that he said the s/n on the title matches the s/n on the block and it's already titled in my home State of Pa. I don't plan on having the car judged by MAFCA. I just want a nice presentable driver that's fairly close to original. Thanks in advance, Smitty

Very nice looking car. Since the repro fenders are steel and if they fit well (see above), why worry about them? That's better than patched originals (IMHO of course). Take it for a drive and see how it goes. The "what's it worth?" answer always is "What's it worth to you?".
And I'm not trying to be a smart a** here.

While it may only be worth in the $10k-12k range, it will bring in the $16k-18k range based on others that I know about that have sold within the last year or so. All it needs to do is 'start, stop, & steer', ...and have a color combination that the man likes, and an interior that is clean and doesn't smell for his wife, and it is good as sold. Non 'club members' who are looking for something to play with view this as a perfect toy to convert a couple of their bank CDs into.

I don't think anybody noticed the organic parking brake. I would CAREFULLY check out the undercarriage and safety items.

I agree with Brent's value. It's missing the vacuum wiper and it has a 4 blade steel fan, but these won't stop it from being a nice driver/fun car. Most people prefer Rain-X to the stock wipers. The two blade aluminum fan would look a little better and be safer. Some 4 blade steel fans have thrown a blade.

Hi Smitty,

Humble Opinion:

Not trying to be funny; but, seriously this is not that much different from choosing a girlfriend from a written classified ad.

Judging from overall appearance, texting, & talking on the phone is one thing; but you won't know what you really dealing with until you actually take her out to see how she responds to "your" particular liking.

After that, just like with girlfriends, overall "cost" is really no object.

Hope this helps.

Looks like a nice driving car. The value of the car is what it is worth to you. A good number would be in the area of 9M-10M from what I can see. Check out the header and top wood if possible. Any leaks in the top.

What sort of price is on the car? I get the impression you're afraid of getting "taken", but if you like the car, and you drive it enough...you'll eventually get you money's worth out of it.
The seller almost always thinks its worth more than the buyer, you just need to find the place you can agree and hand over the cash. Be sure you keep enough for gas to get home. Enjoy!

I think that car is very nice in a beautiful, correct appearing, color combination, far better than "just a driver." I can't tell if the front fenders are originals or reproductions; few non-A owners and novices can, and I thus find it a good sign that the seller is forthcoming in his description. That he advertises in Hemmings instead of Craigslist or puts it on eBay is also a good sign.

Value is hard to pin-point, but I would not go beyond $15K if I wanted a very nice Coupe needing nothing but a new owner. Then again, it's better to buy a good car for $17K than a headache on wheels for $13K.

d.j.,
How can you tell the car has a 28-29 rumble lid? I didn't know there was a difference between 28-29 & 30-31.

There are a lot worse looking examples around here with an asking price in the $16 to $18K range. The value can only be determined after you see how it drives - does it feel comfortable at 45 (better yet at 55), does it track reasonably straight, does it have the Ford shimmy, etc? That and a good look at the lower cowl for signs of rust (remove the kick panel if he will let you) will give you a good idea of how well it was restored.
