Re: Installing terminal box
Yes, maybe depending on the year. The early 'banana type' can't but later style can. Just remove hold down clamp.

Re: Installing terminal box
I would think the distributor needs to be lifted up for ANY cable with the forged hold down. Be sure to drain the coolant before you remove the clamp nut, or you may (will) wind up with coolant in the cylinder and oil pan.

Re: Installing terminal box
if there is no hold down clamp on the cable loosing up the lock screw and remove the distributor it is easy and it will only let it go right back in the same spot. it will NOT change your timing.

Re: Installing terminal box
Dana,
Follow the above advice from Brent,John, and Tom... Assuming you really do have a popout.. If you should have a key switch with small wire it then you only have to pull that through and back when re-installing. Incidentally, if you are replacing the terminal box with an original, great! If using a repro they take a couple of fixes to safely use. one, the screws come not fully tight on the back. Note the originals were brass studs, the repros are screws. If the screws should back out you have a short against the firewall. Tighten them, and fill the screw head cavity with quick set epoxy as insurance. You won't be sorry. When re-installing everything be sure to use good high quality harnesses, soldered flag terminals on the terminal box end. All stud nuts tight. Good luck! Larry Shepard |
