Default Anyone Have a Late '29 Tudor?

I'm looking for information and a couple measurements around the windshield. In August 1929 Ford began producing all Tudors (and only Tudors) with vacuum windshield wipers. This required a different top section of the windshield frame as well as the upper hinge section that had the inverted "U" shape cut out as seen from inside the car at the wiper.

I'm hoping one or more folks will have a late '29 Tudor that is still intact with no modifications. I believe they used the same wiper as '30-31 closed cars but the records are sketchy and it may not be the case. I'm assuming the windshield frame top will have holes punched as shown in my #1 below but again, that may not be the case.

Thanks....

Marco, I may have what you're descibing. My Tudor is a July build, but I'm the second owner and have owned the car for 53 years. It had a replacement electric wiper on it when I bought it, but I put a vacuum wiper on it when I restored it 33 years ago. I don't remember any extra holes; the vacuum seemed to fit just right. That was 33 years ago, though, and I haven't looked at it since.

Can you tell me what exactly you need, and if your photos above are from the front or the rear of the car?

My photos are from the front or outside of the car. You should be able to see signs of any changes or repairs from the back side if you open the windshield and look up inside from the drivers compartment. If it looks like the real deal then I need a measurement taken on the outside from the center of hole "D" (center of the on/off rod) to the left (drivers side) edge of the frame.

Mine measures 10-1/2". My frame looks like #1 in your photo. My firewall date is 7-17-29. Inside I have the inverted "U" you describe.

I can take some photos tomorrow if you need them.

CORRECTION: I measured from the wrong point. The correct measurement is 14"

Sent you a PM.

Thanks Ray,

I sent you a PM. I can tell there will be a little back and forth here to figure things out so I thought we could do it in the background and bring in back here when we know we're on the same page and have some conclusions.

The measurement from the left end (DS) of the trough to the center of the "U" is 12-3/4"; the width of the "U" is 1/2".

This is really interesting; I didn't know there were differences between the early 29 and later 29 windshields, other than the refitting from electric to vacuum wipers. But it sounds like there are other variations.

My engine numbers say it was produced on Sept. 25 1929 and its a tudor sedan. Ive got the extra holes as well. It is 13 5/16 from inner channel corner to operating switch.

It appears you have the original late '29 Tudor upper hinge (which contains the "U" cut out), but it appears someone used a windshield frame upper from a 1930. That would require the wiper be moved 5/8" to the right for the wiper control to align with the "U".

Thanks to Ray for confirming what I was convinced Ford must have done with the late '29 Tudor windshield frame and hinge. It appears the late '29 Tudor was the only model that ever used this particular windshield frame and upper hinge assembly.

I have more to do to clarify the windshield frame variations so it's easy to understand. This won't be overnight but I will post updated information when possible.
