'35 pickup hood hinge
The center hinge on my '35 pickup had about 10 or 15 holes in each side to mount to the top halves of the hood. Some holes had nothing, some had rivets, some had nuts and bolts. This had obviously been repaired a few times over the years...and not necessarily good repairs.
I decided to buy a stainless one from Drake. It came with 3 holes. That doesn't seem like enough to me. How many holes should it have and how is the hinge supposed to be fastened to the hood halves? Thanks, Heard

Re: '35 pickup hood hinge
The one I bought from Thirdgen was drilled to match my hoods existing holes. The hinge was already removed in the two tops I used...... it also matched the hole pattern in an original hinge that I removed from another set of tops.
If I may tag onto your query: I would be interested in hearing back from others on the for-aft length and fit of their reproduction hinge.

Re: '35 pickup hood hinge
FYI...........the original hood hinges were spot welded to the hood panels. And the holes were for?????
I have a set in the garage attic -- no bolts, no rivets. |

Re: '35 pickup hood hinge
Good info folks. Thanks. I took another look at my hinge. Half of it appears to be fastened from the factory with the exception of 2 rivets. I think I can use this as a pattern.
The other half, lying there in the hood has about a dozen extra holes.

Re: '35 pickup hood hinge
My '36 hood was only spot welded. I assumed the holes were only there to locate the hinges to the hood to avoid misalignment.

Re: '35 pickup hood hinge
In addition to the spot welds there was some evidence on my hood and hinge of short hollow brass rivets in the holes.

Mine too Don. On a couple of different hoods.
