I recently discovered that there were small hard flakes between the outer and inner layer of my 1929 Repo gas cap.

The engine always ran great but recently it periodically would die from lack of fuel. I used a compressor to blow air through the vents in the cap and it appeared there was no blockage. After drilling the inner lining holes a little larger, I was able to extract a lot of these hard brown flakes.

It appears the flakes would eventually cover the inner lining holes and shut off the air supply to the gas tank.

I have no idea where the flakes came from. I have used the cap since 2008.

It is important that the gas cap on a Model A have the vent hole open at all times. If it becomes plugged the engine will starve for fuel, and you will roll to a stop.

Reproduction gas caps have a history of plugging off. The 30-31 is the more notorious. See attached article about it.

Buy a new gas cap from Snyders, their cap has two rivets to hold the gaskets in place.
