Default disturber drive shat

Does the upper oil pump/dist. shaft receive oil ? When I removed mine it was very dry.

It can be disturber-ing but my intermediate distributor shaft has had surface rust on some of my Model A's. I conclude that it doesn't get oiled other than some oil mist. So, I grease it when replacing or have it out. That may help some.

Ya it is kinda closed off. Some grease on the clean shaft sounds good. There should also be a little oil that runs down when you oil the bushings.

Oil from the pump lubes the drive gear assembly, but goes no higher. Most of the oil floods the valve chamber. Light rusting of the distributor shafts is common.

Condensation from the heat cycle of the engine is the cause.. The splash system ford used creates a monsoon of oil, the rods throw oil everywhere in the crankcase. The valve chamber doesn't quite get the same effect, at higher rpm the oil drain back tube cant handle the flow and oil spills out the front of the block through the punched hole above the timing gear.. the lifters and valves splash it some, but not enough to get past the head gasket hole the shaft passes through.
