1941 6 cyl p/u info needed
Hi,
My son has a 41 pickup. It has been street rodded and he would like to put it back to original with the 6 cyl. engine and trans. He is ok with a 46-51 engine if he doesn't find a 41. What all differences will he have with the later engine? Will the transmission have to be from a 41 to get the floor shift & closed driveshaft? Any help appreciated. Thanks Steve |

Re: 1941 6 cyl p/u info needed
actually the 41-47 G engine is the same engine. Trans case is 6 cylinder only, the internal gears are the same up thru 48, remember 42-47 trucks went to an open drive line. There are a lot of differences between 8/4 cylinder frames and 6 cylinder frames. the main being the drop down to allow the 6 engine to go over the front crossmember thus you get a rad moved forward which change the grill crosmember, which changed the hood latch. there is a reference to when the 6 came out in the parts book for these different parts were available. The book "two great trucks" by Howard Towne has a lot of info on these changes, this book is available from the early ford v8 club website

Re: 1941 6 cyl p/u info needed
Hi
Thanks for the responses. 41panelmark are you talking about the plate where the pedals goes thru? alanwoodieman thanks for the info. I told my son I thought he would have to find a 41 6 cyl trans to get the correct one. He truck was a 6 cyl originally so it has the correct hood latch and cross member. Do you know it the engine mounts are the same between say the 41 & 47? Thanks |

engine mounts are the same--42-47 have a "ladder" style cross members but the engine still mounts to the same crossmember
