Smile Firestone vs BF Goodrich??

Hi All,
In the market for tires for a car that I tour in quite a bit.. Am looking at either BF Goodrich or Firestone.. Any Pros-Cons with either tire? I had heard that the Firestones wore pretty quickly due to soft compund? Any experiences you'd care to share on either tire?

Why not consider Goodyear. In my opinion, they are about the best on the market right now.

Our club is getting together a "group buy" from Coker at the Portland swap meet to get a good deal in bulk and save shipping, etc.. They Carry Firestone and BF Goodrich, so I thought I'd look into those 2 brands.. Who sells the Goodyears?

I do, ....Kelsey does, --as do others. Group orders are nice if the group is ordering what you want to use. Might I suggest you call John at Kelsey Tire and see if he will offer you a deal too so you guys can compare $$.

Remember the old Allstate tires? They wore like iron. I'm sure that the current tire manufacturers know if their tires don't wear out, you won't have to buy new ones. Who, now makes Model A tires with a harder rubber compound?

A couple of years ago I checked with Kelsey Tire regarding a discount for bulk buying. At that time he quoted a 20 unit minimum. I cannot guarantee that minimum is still in effect. Tire markups are not large and getting discounts is not easy. Also consider shipping costs as long distance shipping can eat up a low price savings. Personally I prefer Goodyear as number 1.

I have firestones on my model a now and they have been on for nearly two years, hardly any wear. I drive the car whenever I can so I do put some miles on them. My 2 cents.

I would never buy another Firestone tire after the failure of the belting on one that cost $5000 in repairs on my motorhome. Two dealers including one Firestone one said the tire was defective and so did an independent lab. Firestone simply refused to even pay for a new tire. Dishonest crooks!

Chuck, it is not the same company or manufacturer. It would be like saying I am never going to buy another new Ford automobile because the Ford Script ammeter in my Model A shorted out and caused a fire. Coker Tire owns the molds and pays royalty rights to manufacture the Firestone tire for vintage automobiles.

Firestone will be the last tire i'll put on my "A" [30/31's].They just don't fit ! Goodyear #1 [for judging is better] . Goodyear or Goodrich is fine for driving. Which ever is less cost in price and shipping..

My new Firestone tires fit too tightly into our 1930 Phaeton's fender wheel wells when they are full of air. I can only have them inflated to 8 psi to be able to still get them in or out of the fender wheel wells. Will the 19" rimmed Goodrich tire fit the 1930 wheel well properly when they are aired up to 35 psi? My 1930 wheel wells are all the original Ford metal.

I also see at Coker that there are some 19' x 500 radials out there as well.. Not a terrible price either.. Interesting

We never know who is making what we are getting.I bought two Fel-Pro 7013 R3 head gaskets.I have a couple around that are two or three years old,the new ones are MUCH lighter than the two year old ones. They are also not stamped with the Fel-Pro logo, number and name. The cardboard they are mounted on is marked Fel-Pro.Then the fine print on the cardboard says they may be made by somebody else.I bought some elsewhere and they are the heavier ones.I have been seeing that with lots of car parts.I bought some Volvo OEM rotors at the owners request because the aftermarket ones were supposed to be out of whack.I paid the big bucks and in the Volvo box I found a taiwanese box.I had paid $95.for a rotor I could have picked up at Napa for $22.I picked up two sets of 19 inch tires, same brand, about a month apart, one set was made in Viet Nam and the other set was marked New Zealand.I can't remember what brand they were, most likely Universal, but I have bought a few different brands for people.

A friend of mine has Lesters on his Graham and have lasted for a number of years providing excellent service. I know that Universal sells them. The price for Lesters is reasonable too. I have Firestones on my Model A and they've served me well.

This may be getting too far off track but I had to deal with the Firestone issue on my Ford Explorer and I was impressed on the way Ford addressed the issue and I had a new set of five tires free.

As I remember Firestone was and still is actually owned by Bridgestone since 1988 and is the largest tire manufacturer in the world
