Model A Quail

I believe I have found an original Model ‘A’ Quail hood ornament. I went on the web to research it and found nothing. I was hoping some Ford Barners could post pictures of their original quails and share their knowledge on what is original and what is not.

If it's a 29, it would be VERY different. If it's a 30-31, find someone with a definite repo and compare. They were pot metal so there are not many left.

originals have much sharper detail than the repros available now. On the underside of the top cap, look for the STANCO logo in the casting. The patent number is stamped in the stainless steel inner liner of the top cap as well as the words, "other patents pending".

it would have been really easy if you posted a picture
here are a few original quails
the first 2 are 30-31 stancos Stant Manf Co
the next one is a 29 Stanco,this one is missing the base,it screws on
the last two are Jarvis 29 caps
the 30-31s are currently reproduced and they are quite well done,the detail is not as sharp
whereas the 29s are not being reproduced and are really different from the 30-31 and also different from manufacturer to manufacturer
i also find the Jarvis tend to be of an inferior base metal ,and tend to spall

I seem to recall they sell for over $1000 on ebay regularly.
Perhaps someone has better information.

i think my quail is a 29 also. it is 4 3/4" long and 3" wide and almost 3" tall. nice condition for its age. no radiator cap, just the quail. are these really worth what was posted?

The bottom of the quail is stamped "Glendale, Ct-Greenland Co. 4". Any additional information would be appreciated. My book collection is slowly increasing, eventually I hope to be able to collect the back issues of the two magazines. Thanks Paul

yes greenland is one of the first reproductions

Tom(mot) posted some great quail pics last year(very much appreciated Tom), but I still can't figure out the year of my quail(bird only unfortunately). Looks like '29, but can someone confirm? Thanks. Bruce.

Hi,
about a year ago i purchased a motormeter . After i took it home i found it to be nos. It was still in it,s original box and along with the meter, there is a small phamplet dersribing other products the box itself is somewhat brittle due to age. After seeng where someone saw on on ebay for $1000.00 i wonder if the one i have is an original or not. After i get over this flu-like cold i will describe it better.
