2223 Pendine Prep 14. Big inch Flatty First Start and Drive! Yay!
Hello and welcome to Mart's Garage. In this video I am finally ready to start up the 286 cu in flatty. That's 3-3/8" bore and 4" stroke. I have a few issues to contend with along the way, but am able to take the car for an initial run. I then get a second run after addressing some issues.
I hope you find it interesting, it's another step in the right direction in getting the car ready for racing on the beach at Pendine. Thanks to all who have been following the big inch flatty build and the Pendine Prep series. Mart. https://youtu.be/r2P0gkn5ieo |

Re: 2223 Pendine Prep 14. Big inch Flatty First Start and Drive! Yay!
Nice runs. Love the sound of a big inch flathead.
I had the same problem with engine dying when coming to a stop. I turned out to be lack of enough return spring on the secondaries on the 3x2 intake. It left the secondaries open a bit, amounting to a big vacuum leak. That is not your setup but it might be worth checking carb synchronization and any slack or friction in the linkage to the front carb. Thanks for the show. |

Good job as usual, Mart. I loved the driving video. I've forgotten what your rear end ratio is in the '32. It seems very responsive, as if it's geared low. Maybe just my bad hearing.

Hi Al. 3.78s in the Sedan. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Just been thrashing on the car. Off to Pendine in the morning. |
