Default Anything V8 happening Jan/Feb in San Diego?

For Christmas we were given a voucher for airfare and 4 nights at a hotel in San Diego. We haven't decided when to use it, but would be fun to coordinate if something interesting going on. Otherwise, a car museum or? I can sit by a pool for about ten minutes, then I gotta do something.

I'm very impressed with the patience and attention to detail that scratch build modelers have. That Duesenberg is incredible.

My best friend is a professional/scratch builder as well as box stock and or altered. As he always says, the first step to rehabilitation is recognition. Here is one he built from a drawing someone did. He machined all the turbo's, stacks, wheels. He sends them out to get chrome plated. I will have to get pictures of a hot rod Peterbuilt simi truck he did, 1500 hours in the paint job and air brushing. ALSO here is a model of a cab over he did. completely hand built the trike in the back...I think its a copy of a real build out in So Cal??

No one has mentioned the Air Space Museum in Balboa Park. It is located on the former 1935 California Pacific International Expostion (San Diego Worlds Fair) site. The building is the Ford Exposition Building. There maybe aviation displays in the building, but there is still a lot of Ford displays to see. The Transportation Mural, the V-8 in the center of the building and reminants of the Road of the World around the building. Very much a V-8 happening.

And across the parking lot is the San Diego Automotive Museum.

Enjoy.

Wasn't there something like the "Big 3" show/flea market in January at the old Qualcom Stadium? Been a long time show there?? Maybe one of the San Diego regional members will chime in here.

Just keep in mind, 2 hours is IF you go at like 3am....IF you leave at normal operating hours it could be as long as 5 hours depending on I-5 and 405 traffic and boarder patrol stops.

Cars and Coffee at the outlets in San Clemente is 60 miles north of San Diego.

USS Midway, aircraft carrier : https://www.midway.org/

Get out on the water and take in a unique place to visit. One day visit. Did you know the Chicago Cubs had their spring training on Catalina Island from 1920 to 1950?

Spruce Goose was moved to McMinneville , Oregon some years back. Bruce makes a good suggestion about the old Ford Exposition building in Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo is also a good bet.

I had a look at the site. I was just blown away! How anyone could accomplish such a thing leaves me speechless.

Wow! Now that's looking like a vacation! You guys are really giving us an agenda! We aren't too big on city driving after 45 years of living on a rock without so much as a single traffic light.
1 1/2 hours to Seattle down I-5 leaves us frazzled, so mostly local or we could do some uber rides. My wife knows how to do that. How far is La Mesa?

Gary, La mesa is only 10 miles east of San Diego. We'll be your chauffeur around town, it's fun to show our neighborhood to out-of-towners. Ray

I just got back from San Diego after spending the Holiday at my sisters. I was surprised of the more conservative attitude then what I imagined of California. People are friendly and courteous.

I was looking for Hot rod shops myself, there's not a big selection, if any and I didn't want to bore everyone else so I didn't go to any.

Mission Beach has the waterfront with a boardwalk, Belmont Park, lots of other parks, very people friendly. Clean public restrooms. We rented pedal bikes and rode around or you could walk the beaches and boardwalk.

Just north of M.B. you can see Harbor seals at Children's Pool La Jolla.

Torrey Pines Park, north of Mission. There's hiking trails or you can drive to the top and see the views, also watch the para sailors or try it yourself with an instructor.

There's a Light house and National Park by the Naval base with great views of the bay.

Balboa Park has a lot of museums and gardens. It's a full day.

Old Town, more of an old time Mexican shopping and restaurant theme area.

There's whale and dolphin boat tours.

Plenty to do.
