Peep mirrors

I bought a clip on peep mirror from the standard vendors. It is the straight shank, and I mounted it just above the hinge. Worthless. It is angled out so far that you can't adjust it in enough to see anything. Are they all like this? Is the bent arm one better?


I didn't feel like going through the expense or effort for a hinge pin one, but I'm not sure what else to do. It's tough driving without mirrors....

I don't know if this will help, but a good way to adjust side mirrors is to have them pointing towards your blind spots. The rear view mirror in the center of inside the car will let you see behind you and as a car passes it will disappear in that mirror and appear in the side view mirror at about the same time. As it disappears from the side mirror it will appear in you peripheral vision. This arrangement has saved me from pulling into the lane of a passing car many times. I can keep my eyes ahead and don't have to turn around to see what is in my blind spot.

I can't even see cars in the opposite lane because it's angle so far out. I'll take a picture of the mount, it looks like it's bent wrong. It gets worse when you insert of rubber protector.

Accidents are a huge PIA. I have a hinge pin mirror on each side. They are not bad, and well worth the few bucks paid. As far as I know safety items are not a deduct for points when fine point judging.

I have the ones with the bent arm that the mirror pivots on a ball and socket joint. Its still nearly absolutely useless. I'll get it set right and by the time I get to where I'm going its shifted position. Even when its in the right spot, I have to close one eye to really make out if there's something there or not.

On the passenger side I pointed it down at the rear wheel so I can see how close I am to the curb when I'm backing in. That's about the only time I bother using my outside mirror

You can get stick-on convex mirrors that help a lot. I have some that are the exact diameter of the flat mirrors.

I have the hinge pin mirror arms on both sides of my CCPU. I have 6" convex mirrors again on both sides. Best combination ever. Arms came from Snyder's, mirrors from Amazon.

I also have the one with the ball socket joint, but my mirror vibrates so much I can't see anything out of it

Many many years ago, before the internet, there were articles in the magazines about how the vibration pattern in your rear view mirror could be used to analyze your engine. A certain pattern, say a slanted oval was a loose rod bearing and straight up and down was a loose main bearing. I now think it was pure BS and meant to be funny. But back then I thought it was a serious thing.

Let's see a picture of the mirror mounted on the car. That will be a big help.

Pictures of the mirror and on the car. The clamp bracket doesn't seem bent right and it seems too far recessed into the arm. On the door you can see the main part of the stem is not at a 90 degree angle or less, and hence I'm looking practically sideways.

2Speed, will the mirror pivot 1/2 turn, to allow more of it to be 'away' from the door? Perhaps it's just the camera angle, but it looks like the adjustment ball is not halfway along the mirror, allowing a bit more mirror to be further away from the door...

That’s the way I see it too, the mirror needs to be rotated 180 degrees to give the range you are looking for (pun intended). I would understand if you preferred it the way it is but I don’t know any alternative.

Did that, didn't help, I was trying it on the passenger side to see if it worked there, that's why it's adjusted different.

Put it on the front of the door, that will work.

If you rotate the mirror 180 degrees the mirror will then be able to look more toward the center of the car. Twist it 180 degrees.

Rotated every which way, every degree, and it is mounted on the front edge of the door, I cannot see the edge of the car. I'm going to fab my own mounts.

2speed, if you can see the edge of your car, you have the mirror tipped in too far. The side mirror is supposed to look "out" further to the side.

I also tried the peep mirrors and found them worthless. For these jeep mirrors I did have to drill holes and mount them to the body. But I don't think they look too out of place, and I've been very happy with them. Can't beat the price at $27 for a pair. They do vibrate some, but they hold their position, you can still clearly see the cars behind you, and they offer a nice wide view beside and behind. They don't impact the way the door opens at all on my slant window.

While I know there is a hot debate on how to adjust your side mirrors, but I drive truck, and not being able to see the edge of your vehicle in the mirror does not work for backing up, especially with the narrow back window of a Model A. It also does not work when someone is 2 feet off your rear end. For me, seeing the back corner is a necessity.

Convex Mirrors as said in previous post work wonders!!! I added them to my existing mirrors and made a Huge difference!

I had mirrors on both chromned covered spares. Then convex stick ons one each tire. Worked pretty well. I had a non standard center m1rrror with a clock. It was wider the little oval Henry offered.

Years ago when I put mine on I ended up parking my A on the driveway, and then parking two of my daily drivers just behind, and along side on each side where I wanted to see. Once you drive with them a while you make minor adjustments, and get them zeroed in. You get used to them. The vibrations calm down with load on the drive line.

I have the same mirrors and had the same issue. I reversed the c-clamp and it changed the angle of the mirror stock

I like the hinge pin ones. Those ones with thy allen screws always chew up the paint. I have them on my streetrod, and dislike the marks they put on the inside of the door.

Ditto, that's what's on my CCPU, I replaced the vendor's mirrors w/ones w/a longer stem to allow more adjustment.

I have a Slant Town Sedan, I wanted a mirror on the right side of the car. I bought a Peep Mirror and have to mount it on top of the door. Couldn't get it close enough to see the side of the car. Took the mirror apart and cold bended the arm that the mirror attaches to. Now I can see the right side of the car, have plenty of adjustment.

I did have to drill to make them fit the A. But I use mine as a daily driver, so the trade was worth it to me to be able to have mirrors I could actually see with. And I figured I'd patched enough other holes throughout the body to compensate for the ones I added.

Mine has clamp-on ones on the wind wings. You couldn't see anything. I put those round convex mirrors on them and now it's fine. They come in different sizes and most have double sided tape to mount them. $2-4 on FleaBay $6-10 at the parts store.

I tried the same mirrors you have and could not get them to work. I gave them away and went with the hinge pin mirrors and they work great and no vibration

To all the folk who mentioned stick-on convex mirrors - do you have a maker of those? I'm looking around for a 4-inch convex to just stick onto the 4-inch Synder's door-attached mirror.....

Well...I reversed the clamp and that helps get the mirror where I want, but it does make it only set on a small area of the arm on the door. So I decided to make my own arms. I have access to a CNC plasma cutter, drew them up, and put the passenger one on. I can bend it to where I want. Hardest part was bending the u bolt. Need to make a jig or something. Haven't tested wind resistance or vibration yet as the weather has not cooperated.

I've found that the mounting stud on the back of some mirrors (sold by some of the vendors) is too short, restricting the adjustment of the mirror. Remedy was to buy different mirrors w/a longer mounting stud.

I solved the "short mounting stud" delima by adding a 1" barrel nut from the hardware store into the mix.
