Exhaust/intake manifold ?
two more questions re: Manifold nut torque specs. Macs parts book says to torque these to 55lbs. Les Andrews mechanics book makes no reference re torque specs. previous post suggest snugging up and rechecking after a few running cycles.
My other question relates to the manifold washers. A previous response cautioned me to install the manifold washers correctly, The mechanics book makes no mention but the Macs parts book says to install them with the cup facing the manifold (outward?). Thanks to all, I have the parts here and will put them on in the morning. burt |

Re: Exhaust/intake manifold ?
I'd go with snugging them up tight. I use the two piece copper gasket from Snyder's. There will be other opinions.

Re: Exhaust/intake manifold ?
I just installed exhaust and intake manifold, with a one piece copper gasket. I was told by the supplier 25 foot pounds. I went to 30 pounds just to make sure. I thought 25 is quite low. So far no problems have about 100 miles with new parts.

Re: Exhaust/intake manifold ?
Use a 3/8th ratchet w/ an extension and common sense...
Retighten after some hot and cold cycles using the same tools and again common sense. The washers are shaped like an igloo, put the outside of the igloo's roof against the nut. |

Re: Exhaust/intake manifold ?
I use 35 on the manifolds. 55 is too much, that is head torque.

Re: Exhaust/intake manifold ?
Twenty Five (25) foot pounds is about right. Check from time to time.

Re: Exhaust/intake manifold ?
Think of it this way: BIG BOLT=BIG long wrench! They're the SAME size as the HEAD BOLTS!

Re: Exhaust/intake manifold ?
I like 45lbs! Important! Torque several times after hot and cold cycles, same as head bolts!
