Default gas tank repair

somebody had mentioned on one of the threads a repair under the steering column for gas tank leaks with a sealer of sorts (not epoxy, but something like it?)-I need it for a diesel leak and wondering if it will possibly work?

Some time ago I bought a kit at the auto part store made by Permatex that was developed to repair metal gas tanks on lawn mowers. It's a black 2 part material that sets hard but flexible after curing. It worked well on my coupe tank and hasn't leaked in 10 years.

JB Weld eventually can be penetrated by gasoline I've heard so I'd investigate further, the Permatex product for metal tanks in my case hasn't been affected in 10 years. I would sand off all paint and apply to clean dry metal, it can be painted over also.

I repaired a leak in my 8N fuel tank about 10 years ago with JB Weld and it hasn't leaked yet.

A diesel leak would be less aggressive.

YMMV

Pull the tank and fix it right. The fire risk is just not worth skimping

I agree, fix it right. However, I have used this stuff very successfully for temporary repairs. It is easy to use and works well.

I have used SEAL-ALL as pictured above with success. Available at most auto parts stores and Wal-Mart.
as usual...the cleaner and drier of the parts the better before application, and give it the recommended time to dry.
