Default Tilly stripped drain plug

The plug will snug up without the gasket, any extra long plugs available?

Maybe you can find something like this...I've seen similar fittings where the fuel line attaches..you'd need a plug of course...or solder the fitting closed instead of a plug...

I have repaired a number of Zenith carburetors that had the drain plug threads stripped. What I did was salvage a filter screen assembly that screws into the upper housing and remove the filter screen by melting the solder. The threaded cup is the same shape as the drain plug only larger. The drain plug has a 1\2" hex, the filter screen assembly has a 5\8" hex.

I drilled and tapped the drain plug boss to fit the filter screen plug. You have to be careful not to drill into the boss for the main jet. Of course remove the main jet first. I finished up with a bottoming tap. Off hand I don't recall the drill size or the tap size. It is whatever it is that matches the filter screen threads.

Very clever, Tom.

What have you done about stripped inlet fittings on Tillies

It probably takes a plug with NPT thread.

No. With the thickness of the insert it leaves too little decent metal remaining. Tom Endy's method is the way to do it on Zeniths. But.. is it possible for Tillys? On a Tilly I would have though there was just too little metal remaining for any remedy other than JB Weld (or chuck it in bin).

That sure seems like a whole of of work to save the bottom half of a Tilly. It's the tops that hard hard to come by not warped. The bottoms are generally good.
I'm glad you found a fix though. You get an A+ for that one.
