May 2, 2016, Happy 87th Birthday Agy
In the summer of 1968, Hunter Hilton, a neighbor in Inglewood, California purchased a 1929 Tudor Sedan while on vacation in Kansas. I owned a 1929 Coupe and lived across the street from him. When the car was removed from the trailer, Hunter pointed out the personalized license plate that read 'AGY'. He also pointed out the 5-2-29 date on the firewall. Hunter got interested in restoring Model A open cars and put AGY up on blocks.
In 1973, I had just gotten married and I convinced Hunter into selling me AGY. I drove her back and forth to work for the next 2 years. My wife, Lori drove our 1931 coupe. In 1975 we sold AGY to my brother Barry and his wife Kathy. They owned her for the next 20 years, in which time she received a beautiful paint job. AGY was used in 2 family weddings. I bought AGY back in 1995 and sold her in 1996. I owned her again from 2000 to 2003. She had 3 owners between 2003 and 2016. The middle owner let her sit outside for 11 years. The sun faded her paint and several sections of paint peeled, causing rust. The top also deteriorated. I tracked her down again in 2014. The current owner had just gotten her running again and had replaced the top. She was not for sale, but he promised to give me first chance if he ever decided to sell her. That opportunity came in January, 2016. This time AGY is back in the family to stay. She is not as pretty as she once was, but we are glad that she is home again. Don't they say that the fourth time is the charm. May 2, 2016, Happy 87th Birthday, AGY. Last edited by Neil Mylar LakewoodCA; 05-04-2016 at 06:05 AM. |

My grandson, Isaac pretending to drive AGY at the Orange County pancake breakfast.
Notice one of the rust spots by the door handle. The picture in my avatar was what Agy looked like in 2003. I'm sorry the picture printed upside down. Can anyone repost it? Last edited by Neil Mylar LakewoodCA; 05-02-2016 at 02:15 PM. |

Re: May 2, 2016, Happy 87th Birthday Agy
My cousin's husband did the same thing to his 1930 Tudor. He gave it a very nice restoration, drove it a few times, then left it outside to get destroyed by some raccoons. He restored it again, and now it has been setting in the rear corner of the garage with 4 flat tires. Hasn't moved in 30 years. He passed away, so who knows when it will get run again. Too bad someone can't enjoy it.

Tom Endy,
Thank you for your comment. Tom Wesenburg, That is a sad story about the 1930 Tudor. Too bad they don't sell the car to you. Mitch, Thank you for turning the picture right side up and for enlarging it. Brian, Thank you for trying. By the way, I am sorry you were not able to make the pancake breakfast. I missed seeing you and your truck. Here is a picture of the date on the firewall. Hopefully it will be right side up. |
