Default 48 coupe hood hinge bracket- why did it break?

I posted before asking about how to fix a broken hinge bracket-actually the little bracket permanently riveted to the underside of the hood structure that connects to one of the hinge arms. I'm afraid if I weld it back on, it will just break again because I think it broke from fatigue.
This little bracket works with the spring to hold the hinge open I believe, but I don't know how strong it needs to be.

Gary in La. told me how to weld it back on without damaging the paint- thanks for that one Gary, but I'd like it to be removable, if possible.

I'm thinking of taking it off and welding it back together then using stainless steel pop rivets to hold it on, but maybe there's a better way.

Are new brackets available anywhere?

Anyone else ever run into this?

Thanks, Tommy
