Looks like its time to replace my old 6-volt battery in Jellybean after almost 8 years. Just wondering what everyone is leaning toward these days and who has the best deal for the money.

I have a 8 year old Optima.Last winter was brutal here in northern Pa.A sat From November to April and never started and no battery tender and she started the A like it was brand new.I'm running a 6.2 head with electronic ignition which requires a strong battery.No other battery will be in my A's

OPTIMA BATTERY is bigger bucks but worth every penny with its longevity, extra CCA's and non leaking, but requires a proprietary bracket supplied by the vendors.

Go to any Farm Supply store and buy a tractor 6 volt battery.

Intersate batteries are made in China one year old when you get it I ve had three go bad in two years 12 volt JUNK good luck

I had good luck with a optima, 16 years, then with reading that there had been some problems, and 'made in mexico" ,and being cheap (all my other cars run on junk pile batterys), I went the cheapest route---a junk pile battery---one with a burned end--I cut off the damaged section and made a 12v into 6v

another option is to go to your local Interstate dealer and see if they have a "econo"---probably a warranty return that the battery wasn't the problem

I have been getting around 5 to 7 years service out of 6 volt batterys from the Cal Ranch farm store. Cost around $75.00.

A bit after I retired from the Army and stopped selling Grit newspapers, I went to work for a battery company in Tennessee. My territory was 75% of Tennessee and about 30% of Kentucky. I sold the company brand and their national brand was Gould. Outstanding batteries, great warranty but a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Our only competition was Interstate Battery, another great battery but they had the market because they were Interstate service. Most all 18 wheelers had Interstate Batteries had them because they could get service almost everywhere on the Interstate and since then, they expanded out off interstates. I was always trying to get their accounts and almost had a big nationwide trucking company, they had no complaints about the batteries but the sales rep who serviced them, I didn't get the account, Interstate replaced that sales rep. I'm sure the quality hasn't changed, I've never owned any. Optima is a specialized battery, you won't get service just anywhere!!!!!!
From 6 volt to the huge 6Ds, I sold them, serviced them and I stood behind them.
Service and Money??? If you have the money, you'll get the service.

That was some years ago before they moved production to China. So as the old story goes, that was then and this is now ! Wayne

this is one of our racks we have 3 more. take what u can from this thread unexperienced hearsay or real world live shop experience.

I used to like Interstate, but the local guy that sold them is gone. I just use Advance now, because they are close, and they have a lot of stores out there if I have trouble on the road.
There are no cheap batteries left. If you havent bought one in a while, be ready for a shock.

Five of those batteries in your photo are defective, I know just by looking at them, even though I've never had one!!!!!

Bought cheap on at Tractor Supply & it only lasted 18 months & replaced it with a Interstate & got 6 plus years, so no complaints there, but when it went I did put in an Optima & I'm still loving it after 3 years.

The 6-volt battery I have now in this particular model A I bought at a farm supply a good 7 years ago. It still cranks the engine over fairly good but seams to draw fire from the coil and have trouble starting. The starter has just been rebuilt and works fine on a new battery. It's my understanding that even though a battery can still turn an engine fairly well it may not have enough to feed the coil.

At a dollar a month for 84 months, it owes you nothing ! Hopefully someone more knowledgable will address the starting issue ! Wayne

I have a small lawn tractor battery that I bought from the recycling yard for about a buck. I soldered a copper strap onto the broken battery terminal and used it for 7 years before it finally quit. It's a Panasonic battery and weighs about twice what the Menards store replacement weighs.
