Default 1929 Model A Ford popout ignition switch

I have a 1929 popout switch. When I bought it the head was seperated from the cable. Can anyone tell me the correct length for a 1929 cable? Im going to use it on a 1929 pickup. The key wont turn (maybe it's the wrong key I don't know I bought it with two keys one is a repop blank key so I will take it to a locksmith and have him check the numbers to see if it's the correct key or not. My question is I want to go through it so I know it will be dependable. Is there any place I can go to find "how to restore it" info? Thank you, Bob

A & L Parts have the 28-29 cable that plugs into the 28-29 switch; this would save you a lot of problems, providing you can get keys and make the pop out switch work properly.

A & L Tel. No. 860-693-0112

Outside cable (not including inner cable ends) is 26-1/4 long
When installing the cable end drill a little hole in the popout end housing end tap it and install Allen screw to keep cable from falling out and disconnecting the power.

A 29 is very easy to restore. Take the head apart and check the insulators. You should replace the wire in the cable. That's all there is to it.

You need a key to open it! There are other ways to do it but you need to know how.

Is there a number on the bezel? an A- with 3 digits

There is a strategic spot you can drill to get it open. The button that frees the lock is spring loaded.

The cable end that goes into the popout can get loose and fall out. It is best fixed by tapping a small hole and inserting allen head screw.

Thanks for posting the pictures mrtexas

If Bob gives us the number on the bezel we may be able to help him with a key.

This is a 28-9 original popout I bought at a swap meet, but it came with a 30-1 key that happens to open it.

After 80 years there is no guarantee that the cylinder pins match the key. A locksmith can easily make a new key to open it. I've done that several times.

On 28-29 and early 30 you (do not) need a key to take it apart if you look at Tom`s picture there is a Botton head set screw on the side take it out and the tumbler will come out with the lock ring, sometimes they can be a little sticky so hold it in one hand and with the other hand pop it in and let popout it will knock the ring loose. on the 28-29 cable Bratton part #16370 30 with a oval speedo it used the same head but the cable is longer,

What is the difference between the different popouts?

Does anyone know where to get someone that can rekey a pop out switch. My local locksmith can't do it. Thanks, Ron
