I think the '64 GTO was the best year. It was the only year for the 425A engine [ 389" tri-power] . Smaller. light and great looking too. The tri-power engines changed after that to the basic engine. |

Re: What do you remember about the Mustang introduction 50 years ago today?
I was not born until two years after it's introduction. My Uncle had a brand new 1965 Green Convertible, with a six cylinder. He said it went a hundred mph. My father in law bought basically the same car about thirty years later.
It's a blue convertible with a six cylinder. I bought it from him about ten years later. He is currently restoring it for my wife. Converting it to a 289 with a four speed. I love the Mustang, it was built when I was just a little boy.

I didn't want one because I had a new Falcon convert, with a V8, 4 speed and better seats.

I wasn't born yet, the '67 models were on the streets before I was born.

Just another tin can from Ford. Why get one of those when you could get a real car from GM? The Mustang didn't turn into a "real car" until Mr. Shelby did his magic with the GT350 and 500. |

Never forget my dad's friend bought one and brought it over to let my dad take a look. He looked at it a little and told him he would suck it up the exhaust pipe on his station waggon . We always had the big cars

I had a 66 sedan. Pea green metallic, 6 cyl. Automatic. Nice car. Got swept away in a flood and is probably in New Orleans by now!

Re: What do you remember about the Mustang introduction 50 years ago today?
Like many folk, I first saw the Mustang at the World's Fair. A few weeks later
one of my High School teachers brought her new Mustang convertible to our Texaco for service. It was green with a black interior and fun to drive around the lot and onto the lift. Dissapointment set in immediately from below, however, when I realized the fabulous Mustang was merely a Falcon in diguise! |

I was in high school when Ford introduced them. The main thing I remember about them was that they were real chick magnets.

Re: What do you remember about the Mustang introduction 50 years ago today?
I saw the Mustang introduction at the World's Fair in 1964. In the fall of 1965, my wife and I were invited to Manhasset Ford on Long Island for the introduction of the 1966 Mustang, and we bought one. It was a Coupe with a 289 V8. Soon after I bought a 1966 GT350, followed by a 1982 Coupe, a 2006 Premium GT and today I drive a 2011 Premium GT.

Kudos to Ford Motor Company who put on a great Fiftieth Birthday Party for the 1964 Mustang yesterday at the NY Worlds Fair site, inviting hundreds of Mustang Enthusiasts to THE SPOT where he 1964 Mustang was introduced to America.
Ford put on a nice free breakfast, talks by Ford Engineers, Henry's Great Grand Daughter, a Ford VP, and a generous free luncheon for participants. The Long Island Mustang Club ended the event by singing HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our Mustangs. |

Re: What do you remember about the Mustang introduction 50 years ago today?
YES... the NY Worlds Fair. I lived in Flushing( Queens) then, and went to the Fair many times. My future wife even found a hole in the chain link fence under the Van Wyck Expy. For two years, it was the best place to meet girls, sadly not the best place to see the new Mustang. The average wait time on the Ford Pavilion Ride, for the new Mustang, was over an hour. Got plenty of rides in 5 minutes or less in a Galaxie or Falcon. Oh, the priorities of a high school Junior. My uncle bought a new '65 "burnt orange" 2+2, 289 / 4 speed. That was the first car that I drove. Ron

Wow 50 years ago when you say like that it seems like a long time . But I remember my 65 2+2 fastback 289 four 4 speed dark metallic green with gold scalloping and pin strips painted by tommy the Greek . The lady's loved it . I recently sold a 66 289 3 speed coupe because it just wasn't me .

I remember the base price of the 64 1/2 Mustang was $2,368.00.
exactly the same price my Grandpa paid for his new '59 Impala 4-door post sedan. odd how something like that has stuck with me.
