Did you replace the T-stat? It may be hanging up and not letting the coolant flow completely. If you did what temp are you running. I may get flamed for this, but I've never had good luck with flex fans.

Have you had your radiator rodded out? How many rows 3or 4?Do you have a thermostst if so 160, 180 190 I did take mine out and if in slow traffic it will heat up to 200.I also insstalled a 6 blade not any difference that I noticed.I did not flush the block, the antifrees was clean when I drained it.

If this is a fresh engine, the rings may be tight. I remember you having trouble with ignition timing, try backing it off two degrees.

Make sure your timing is set correctly for your motor. This will make it run hot and lean carb mixture also.

OK dumb question is the fan belt tight, if loose the fan blade will slip at speed. Also if it the wagon in photo you can add the air dam for 55-56 Fords that goes on top of radiator cowl up to the hood when closed and seals the hood with a rubber strip.

I've read in a couple places that running a 160 t-stat won't let the engine get hot enough to burn out any condensation that may be in the engine which can have negative affects on the oil. I plan on running a 180, that should keep it around 185-190. Which I think they were run @ 192 from the factory if I remember right.

A thermostat, in good working order and sized correctly ,will determine the running temp of an engine only to a degree. If there are problems with the cooling system (plugged radiator, block with lots of crap in it) a high or low thermostat will not enable the engine to run cooler. It will only determine at what temperature the coolant will start to flow throught the system.

That said, I would run a thermostat. Get the wide mouth one.

Regardless when the stat opens, if the car is going to run, say at 185 degrees, it will no matter what the stat opens at.

That said, run a thermostat. Get the wide mouth one.

I don't like flex fans, either. Too many horror stories of them failing. When a fan blade decides to come loose, the aftermath is not pretty. I was once aquainted with a '55 Ford in my home town that had a big gash in the hood where a fan blade came off and sliced through the hood like a knife through hot butter.
