Used no prep on my Universal tires and they turned a brown color. Are you so sure it's the stuff you are putting on and it is not just the rubber used?

Look up tires turning brown on the internet.

It seems there are a couple tire products out there that turn the tires brown and its pretty hard to get off,I tried Westlys cleaner and it works ok to remove it and lately have used Eagle 0ne Wheel and tire cleaner with a stiff brush that cleans the brown off and it doesn't come back. I've been using the no touch spray but not the Armorall brand and it doesn't create the brown residue,I'll have to try the Meguilars now.

This is not uncommon. Firestone tires were made in New Zealand for years and were notorious for turning an awful brown. I don't know about the current ones made in the USA. The best thing I've found for removing the brown film on tires is mineral spirits. BTW, they would turn brown even if nothing was ever put on the tires.

Marco is correct. I have Firestones on 4 of my cars and they all have a brown tinge. There is No color change on my Good Years.

I asked the guy at a tire store what product to use on my tires. He said soap and water and nothing else.

WAAAYYY!! back when I was a Motorcycle mechanic there was a young guy the Armorall'd his tires... You can imagine the result when he leaned into the first hard corner. Looked good for about a minute tho.

I have a set of older 650/16s and an older set of 19 inch Goodyears. Both sets turned brown after a while, and I never used Armorall on them. Scrubbing hard with Bleche White helped but barely. Some research found that there is an ingredient in tires designed to prevent ozone damage. Its brown and seeps to the surface. It can be removed, but returns soon after. Ultimately I used a Meguiars tire blackening gel, which looks a lot like liquid shoe polish, after heavy scrubbing and that worked. But since its just a tire paint, I expect I will have to repeat that. Nevertheless, it was easy to apply and worked well. Apparently they offer gloss and matte. All I could find was gloss, which looked fine after a bit of road dust got on there.

Have you tried Forever Black Tire Gel? This stuff is actually a black die that does not oxidize or wash off. It's worked great on my 1938 Ford tires. Check out the website:

T.S.P, or a light rub with mineral spirits give them that new tire look, NOT SHINY! Regular wisping with Windex, also keeps them looking good.

It sounds funny, but the best thing that I have found is BLACK STOVE POLISH !
If it will dye iron black, it surely will dye your tires black. It's good for your running boards, too ! It leaves a good look, too !
The rear tires on this replica racer were white wall tires.

The absolute best stuff I've ever used is Meguiar's Hot Shine Tire Gel. Wash/dry then apply it sparingly and buff it off. It lasts for several washings and gives the tire a natural, new look as long as you buff it off. If you dont buff it off the tires tend to be too shiny, like that dorky kid down the street with the lowered Honda likes.

Thumbs up Re: Don't Use This Product

I also use Meguiars tire gel. Have used it for several years now. It goes on everything i own and it leaves a satin like sheen without the shiny look.....i recommend it

I think it was meguiers tire dressing years ago that was nice for later to just wipe the dirt off with damp cloth and tires looked new. Armor all is bad. So is the Sun.
