Default Welcome To The New Ford Barn!

Wow… It’s been a crazy couple of weeks here at the brand spanking new Ford Barn World Headquarters. Acquiring the Ford Barn was not in the cards for this year, but we just couldn’t sit idly buy and let the doors close. We’d simply gotten too much out of the joint in the past to let that happen. A quick phone call to every man’s hero, Shelly, and the deed was done. Now you fellas have to put up with me as I try like hell to fill her huge shoes.

The first order of business was to get the Ford Barn into a more modern environment. You are looking at the new threads right now… Ain’t she grand? This was done for two primary reasons:

1. The old Ford Barn data is priceless and we wanted it preserved and searchable. The new format will allow us to search all of the great posts of old and learn from our past… and that’s what we are all about, right? While the old data has not been imported yet, it will be very soon. Hold your horses.

2. The old Ford Barn was also hard to use, full of spam, and just downright impossible to maintain. The new format fixes all of this and gives all of you many more options as far as functionality.

Now, I’m sure there is a contingent of you that is resistant to change. I get it. And I’m going to try as hard as I can to ease you into this new format. Take your time, be patient, and you just might be surprised with what we have put together here. A good place to start is with the basic tutorial I put together for you. Click here to check it out.

The rest of you are probably pretty familiar with our format. Jump in and have fun… This all for you.

To close, I just want to thank Shelly once again for giving me this opportunity. She has served this community so well over the years and I am honored to pick up the torch and give it my all as well.

See you fellas on the flip side.

Ryan Cochran

P.S. There are bound to be some bugs and broken links floating around the new site. If you see any, just post them on the Q&S forum. I’ll get em fixed!

Ryan,

What a gas!! Nice job Ryan!! It'll be great to see what all you get into place.

It's like being at a large swamp meet with all the parts you'd ever want to see and not know where to start before another Hot Rodder get's there before you!!

Wahoo! I better start running the aisles!

Thanks Ryan, looks good. Quick question for you on the move since I was late asking this before. When the archives are transfered how much of the pre-2005 stuff was savable? I know it will take alot of time to recover some of it as it was overwritten by spammers. Thanks Rod

Ryan,
I know I'm being repetitive, but I just want to thank you for taking over the Fordbarn. By the looks of it, the right person is carrying the torch.
Best wishes.

Ryan, With all due respect, Due we really need case sensitive Passwords to get in? I don't know about others, But I occassionally ask questions or contribute to a thread and for the life of me, I can't see why it takes me upward of ten tries to get in. I have reset the password at least four times. The last one was six characters and the present one is eight characters. WHY? Why is this level of security necessary in forum for old cars? Now I know I'm slow and don't get things as I once did, but this is really too much!
Regards, Terry [email protected]

Yah I must say that the new Ford Barn is 100 times better. I lurked on the old site some, but the message forums were way to complicated to follow. Now that it is using the standard format I'm sure this site is just going to explode with more traffic. I've been on it multiple times everyday since I joined, and love the new look.

I live in Alberta CAN and in 1955 I bought a 1928 Ford CVT serial 8149 from the original owner who was the Ford mechanic here since the model T .It still has it's original spare tire with a second set of Atlas tires on the car.I help start the first car club in the province and have # 5 license on it . It has the original top and seat .This car has a honeycomb rad and a single plate glass windshield that is original ,which has been a controversal subject with the ?? A Ford experts . Some of the A owners saw this car at the Calgary North West meet in 2003 .I am also doing a 1930 with 29000 miles on it that has been inside for 60 years ,no rust .It also has original Goodyear tires on it . They are wonderfull cars .George

Hi all, just joined the forum, it is the second foray into 'A Fords'. First was 45 years ago and a very early Roadster, multiplate clutch, and red steering wheel. A one owner from new and 62,000 on the speedo. Now about to tackle a 29' chassis and try and build a speedster body as the orignal is missing. Great site, cheers from down under---Aus.

Howdy y'all, I am new to this great forum and appreciate all of the good info I've read in here the last few days! I recently bought a barn fresh 1930 model A and not sure at this point what my plan is for it. It has been sitting for the last 30 years and the motor hasn't been started in about 20 years. I'd like to see if I can get it running at some point. It has the original motor in it and mostly all there, but rough in the usual places. My brother in-law wants me to hotrod it, but I'm not sure how much money I want to put in it. I think I'm going to just tinker with it and get it running as is for now.
I will be trying to buy as many original parts as possible when I can find them. Some of the things I know it needs to get running, 6 volt battery, radiator or lots of stop leak..lol and an ignition switch and the housing for the fuel sediment bowl is cracked. I'm sure I'll find some more problems along the way. It has the zenith carb and that might need some attention too? Ok, thanks ahead of time for all the info you guys share in here. I will do my best to search the posts for answers to my questions when possible.

Thanks for having this forum Ryan. I am new here also. I recently purchased a 1929 Model A Fordor. My Grandson and his Father are going to restore it. I think its going to be a great project and a wonderful opportunity for a Father and his son to bond and make something beautiful out of this old gal....

Hello all- I just purchased my first model A roadster, and have really been enjoying it. Still figuring out all of the little aspects to keep it running smoothly. Alot of my questions have been answered searching thru threads, but I am sure I will have alot more. I didn't see a intro thread so I thought I would put it here. -Dave

Thanks Skibb, a few photo's on the way. I'm a painter so I will be updating the paint someday. It's ok now but I like something smoother.

hello I'm " a_crazy" what I mean to say is I'm getting to like the model A fords. so I thought my username of "a_crazy" would be kinda catchy. I like that you can fix an A with a few simple hand tools. no computer or OBD systems to worry about. Being from New England I understand that those tall narrow tires do well in the snow,is this right? It also appears that the A is easy to work on and that most components are easily accessible. I would like to find folks that I can hang out with and learn about these nifty automobiles. I can't afford my own yet, I hope that I will be able to some day. Until then I can try to learn. I am curious what it's like to be behind the steering wheel, what the traction is like, what is it like to drive an A?

New England is a big place, can you narrow it down a bit.

Hej Hej!

Good morning everybody.

My Webside is >>> www.hotchkiss.eu

With my Vintage Cars
I used to travel in Wales, the Middlands, Ireland, Scottland, the Faroer Islands, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Lappland,
starting from Strasbourg, Alsace, France, the town of the European Parliament.

Now I have a normal Phaëton from 1928, big block, and she will be once my new travelcar, but only in 2015, or 2016, because I am travelling in Lappland or the Lofoten Islands (higher than Alaska) since 3 summers with my bicycle and my recumbent trike.

I am 60, and I made 350.000 Km (yes!) in 31 years with my vintage cars in my youngest years.
But I thought in 2011 that it is time to become young and not to travel like a potatoebag anymore.

I am registrated in the swedish Ford-A Club, "Svenska Afordarna", but I am french and speaking french, german, english and swedish.

Ha det så bra
Hälsningar

Thomas Rudolf,
Strasbourg, Alsace, France

ps: I am looking for the rear tail of a tonneau cover or a complete one.
Is there a refabrication for this item?

Just signed into this forum, thanks to all for keeping this passion alive..!!!
I was trying to navigate and explore some pictures in order to obtain information for my restoration job (1931 Ford A closed cab pickup), but I was not able to open any pic… is there any special instruction to be able to share and view the photos?

Hi all!

I didn't find a forum where new users can introduce themselves, so will abuse this one. If my post is inappropriate here, please move or delete.
I'm German, live in Germany and just bought a 1931 Closed Cab Pickup for my wife. She raises sheeps "the old way", so the Model A will be used for farming purposes, too. We want to do a frame off restoration next year and paint it in it's original color (rock moss green). The Coke livery was done by the previous owner in Germany and is not period at all (wrong colors, wrong text).
I'm glad that this forum exists and I'm sure I will spend quite some time here asking questions and admiring other users' cars

DirtyDuck, looks like a very nice pickup. And welcome to the Barn.

You can start a new thread and introduce yourself. Just title it anything you want and then add maybe more information about you, your truck, where you live in Germany and maybe about other hobbies you may have.

Picture size equals storage. The larger the picture the more storage is needed on the server. The site can fit a whole lot more if the picture size is reduced.

10 - 100k pictures take up almost as much space as 1 gig picture.

There are remote picture hosting sites that may be able to help you store your large pictures and then you can just post a link to that site site.

Hi. I'm a new-bee with a '30 Town Sedan. I've had mine since June of last year and have had "Bonnie" up on all fours for the last 10 months, rebuilding brakes and steering after my work day and on weekends. I've looked up a lot on the forum; just "wading up to my knees", but never felt knowledgeable enough to "jump in". The site looks different, and expanded. Thanks, and good luck with everything. ~ Chuck

Ryan-
I am searching past posts and typed a word wrong. I corrected the one letter that was wrong and searched again and got this:

"This forum requires that you wait 10 seconds between searches. Please try again in 5 seconds."

Why? Do people really abuse your system by searching too fast or too often?

I find it annoying.

Thanks.

Hi every one. We are new and I have been designated to post - hence - gogrannygo. Can't figure out how to post. We have a 1928 tudor and the motor completely out and disassembled. The mechanic is going to re-bore the head for new .040 pistons. The crank is out of round where the connecting rods attach and he is going to grind it. We need to order new insert rods, but MAC's can't tell us the size of the journal bearings so he will know what size to grind the crank to. Can anyone give us standard size that the crank should be ground to in order to fit the new rods? If it's .010 or .020 for the oversize rods, what should the crank be ground to? We are going to use the new insert connecting rods - twice as much as babbit, but that was his suggestion. Thanks in advance. Gogrannygo

Default B model oiling

On the later b and 33/34 4 cyl engines, how is the rear main sealed,is it the same as the A engines, and is the oil supply to the rear main on these engines really presurised ,
My reason for asking is if I presurised the mains on my A engine will the rear main slinger be OK?
Thanks Lawrie

You need to put this in the general section as a separate thread. This is part of welcome thread.

This is the welcome section. You need to put your request in the main Model A forum;
