Default another air filter question

I would like to remove my paper air filter per all the hype on here about possible backfires. I got the car in March and it has the paper filter on but I'm not sure what all has to be disconnected from the carb. If I unscrew the wing nut and drop the element what about the 90 degree elbow? Can someone tell me what all has to come off and will I have to readjust the carb settings? thanks, Jim

There will be a set screw on the carb throat. Loosen that and it should come right off. I use an original air maze and it does NOT affect the carb at all. not sure about the paper filter. Someone said you can turn the filter up, so gas would not wet it. I don't know, my aitmaze has a metal mesh element that you clean periodically and dip in oil. If you drive on dirt roads, you need an air cleaner. If not, probably not a big deal.

Thanks Eagle. I'm going out to the garage now and take it off hopefully with no problems. I just wasn't sure if I had to make any fine adjustments to the carb after I take off the filter. Jim
