Re: Which rear wheel get's the torque?

They all have some sort of clutch pack or special gear arrangement that forces torque to the non-slipping wheel, yet allows for the normal differential action in turns as the outside wheel travels farther than the inner. Welding spider gears prevents the axles from turning independently. This results in a non-slip diff, with all the problems described by others in this thread. Some people refer to this as a live axle, though to me it seems dead axle would be more descriptive. Another differential type is the locker, which has a very heavy spring-loaded mechanism that allows the axles to slip one gear tooth at a time when the turning forces become strong enough. It's usually used on off-road vehicles as it is quite annoying (and can be dangerous) to drive on pavement. Joe

Let's play nice. Let he who is without guilt, or has never launched a dud joke, cast the first aspersion. Tom and Milton, Thanks for sorting me out on how the rear end works. It sure looks like the non-spinning wheel isn't trying at all! Steve |

Re: Which rear wheel get's the torque?
I think he asked a perfectly acceptable question. I also think it was proper placement and not a hijack. I agree 100% with steve s, everyone here needs to play nice, there is no reason not to. Then again, I have only been posting in forums since 1993 so I may not have a hang of the etiquette yet. |

Re: Which rear wheel get's the torque?
There is an old saying that applies perfectly here. "For those who understand, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not undersatand, no explanation is possible."

With all do respect you HIJACKED the thread. It is not a question of whining which it wasn't. I was making a statement. I asked a simple question & someone that didn't understand my question had to make up an answer because they couldn't come up with the right one. And I will thank the others that have answered my guestions respectfully. P.S. I'm not the best speller eather. The reason I asked the question is because I was thinking about building an A dragster & was looking at the different options of rearends. Stock vurses quick-change. So I will finish here & find some other kids to play nice with. But I will keep this thread for reff. Shawn |

Re: Which rear wheel get's the torque?
Shawn, No apology necessary, it's a tough crowd around here and i started this thread back in feb. Notice i don't ask questions here anymore, but i stop in every day to read. If i can't find an answer to any question in the future i may have, from the search, then too bad for me 'cause i aint askin'............

Re: Which rear wheel get's the torque?
Don't sweat it, besides you're the one that overvalued my response.
Hey, just because some got jockular or excited, not ALL did, that doesn't mean that you can't, or shouldn't, ask questions. Knowing the reason for the question also allows for a better answer and, for a straight line racer, those welded spiders are looking better. |
