Default Oil Galley Plug Problem

Hey guys, I need some help. I’m putting my 40 engine together and having some trouble with the rear oil galley plug. I seem to have misplaced the original plug so I don’t have anything to reference. I got a 1/4 npt socket head plug and it threads in fine but it sticks way out and I don’t want to force it in. It obviously needs to be flush with the block so the idler gear cover can be put in place. What am I missing here??? I also had a similar problem on the front 1/8 npt plug but I didn’t worry about it since nothing had to fit over it and it didn’t interfere with the timing gear.

On the front you cant use a regular pipeplug...the one you need there has an extension limiting the oilflow.
The rear plug is a short brass plug...regular plug works in that place.

Try Southside Obsolete I know he has the proper front plug and may have the rear. Otherwise you have to shave down the rear plug so the cover fits on the rear. The front plug is special to control oil flow to the timing gear and distributor.

The last time I encountered the problem I just cranked the plug into a pipe die until enough material was removed to allow proper fit.
You can also use a shortened pipe tap to go deeper into the block to allow the plug to go deeper.
