Generator
If its not one thing, its another, just found out that my generator is not a Model A generator, its a truck generator. Do I keep it or change it?

Re: Generator
That's a tractor generator basically the same as the A generator
except the cutout is remotely mounted. I used a Model A generator on my 9N for a few years. Bob |

Re: Generator
I agree about the 9N being tractor. I bet it has an external regulator instead of a cut out. It probably puts out slightly more amperage. I would vote to keep it. Sure like to see a picture.

Re: Generator
Does it have a "autolite" name plate and a rectangular cutout? ---there was a bus/police radio car generator made for Ford in 31

Re: Generator
If it woirks and you don't have a show car, why not keep it until it goes out then replace appropriately. In fact on a drive I owuld replace it with an alternator.

Re: Generator
As long as it is a generator that works, why not keep it.

Re: Generator
I would change it.
But then I'm a little crazy about returning my cars to stock condition. Things like this bother me enough to make them right. Future owners will hate me because modern stuff is cooler and nicer, but if I can scrape up the cash, it goes back to stock. So it really depends upon your personality. If it bothers you, replace it. If not, keep running it until it breaks, then put on a new alternator.

Re: Generator
It looks like the third brush is adjustable from the outside. That's worth the price of admission. (If I'm seeing it right, bad angle).
