Installed my Skip Haney coil. 15 miles out and engine quit. Amp gage showed no discharge when turning key on. This would only be possible if both sets of points were open. After a cool down it started and I drove home. Put in a Vertex condensor. Same result. I removed the distributor this morning for inspection and discovered that the coil spring connection was not in its indentation. It was just touching on the side of the points. Evidently as the engine got warm enough there was enough movement that the spring and point connection separated. I put myself in the "woodshed" for such poor attention to detail.

Do you have point grease on the rubbing block of the points ? It looks pretty dry to me !

yup. As the rotor turns counter clockwise from the front view I usually put the lube on the back side of the left (drivers side) points rubbing block and the front side of the right points rubbing block. That is why it is not visible on the right points (passenger side) in the picture.
