New Model T 27 year old hobbyist in North Carolina

Hello gentlemen,

I have always wanted a model T. I grew up driving air cooled VW's and still do that are 40 years old but that's what I know as daily drivers. I finally ventured into theModel T world and found an un-molested all original and solid 1926 Tudor that's been sitting in a basement for 65 years. Just like an old VW it came right back to life. Anyway. I just got it home last Monday and got it registered today. I rewired the whole car and have ordered tons of parts. I a. Wanting to get in the "loop" and get input and!set people if you don't mind I would appreciate it. I am so excited to learn about these cars! They are very neat pieces of American History!!!

Welcome to the affliction. 27 years old eh? Most unusual but Very good! Wasn't the Vee Dub voted 2nd most influential car of the 20th Century after the Model T? Good to see a young fella that knows what's good!

Yes, Welcome. I have enjoyed T's for 52 years now. It is great to see younger folks learning how much fun they are. There is a wealth of knowledge here and even more on the MTFCA site. The contrasts between the T and the VW are fascinating.

Thom, are you in the Tarheel T's club? I just found them and have been hanging out with Don Ellis, he is a super nice and helpful guy. Also, I just met Clint who owns a Model A last weekend down the street from my house, saw is A sitting in the driveway. I am in Kernersville.

Thank you all for the welcome, I can't relate to many people my age as I do have an enjoyment of mechanical tinkery as I call it and have always loved wrenching on planes, cars, trains and fire arms. I have always appreciated the history and simplistic nature of the Model T and also how it set the industry standard and put the world on wheels. I see similarities in the VW's and T at times though although two completely different animals. One is the sense of community among enthusiasts as I have also found with Ford lovers and the simplicity of the vehicle and engineering. So simple in fact it leads to easy and cheap repairs as well as reliability.

No I have not joined a club yet, but I have heard good things about the Tarwheel club. I am a recent new T owner myself. I found my '21 Touring in September at the Shades of the Past rod-run. I'm glad I rescued it before a street-rodder or rat-rodder got it. I used to be into VWs too. I had looked at this site and others for a long time before we got our T. We had decided that we wanted a model A or a T, whichever we found first. First choice was a T touring and that's what we found. I live in Hudson, north of Hickory on Hwy 321/ 321A.
If I get the chance I will see that you meet a friend of mine that is just a few years older than you and he is really into model T's.

About those new parts you have ordered.....save the old stuff. I even save stuff that is clearly junk, as I found out the hard way that the original might have some little bit of detail that might find important. Enjoy the Tudor and remember...the service brake is on the transmission, not in the hubs.....make sure your emergency brakes are operative.

Greg, I was wondering about the brakes, is there a true neautral on these?

Also, parts I always save except unusable stuff like the old wiring and gaskets etc. I like to repair and rebuild original stuff. Like rather than order a new starter switch to get rid of the unoriginal starter switch I rebuilt it

See the thread " New old guy with new old T'' for a pic of my car. I have had Vw Bugs, trucks , single and double cabs , things, never a Karman Ghia. Always wanted a Notchback.
I think I will look into the club. When and where do they meet?

You have had several. That's awesome! I have a double cab I couldn't get rid of I enjoy driving it.

One of my favorite VW advertisements was a VM passing a Model T on a race track. The caption read something like "VW production passes Model T production" They had an excellent set of writers preparing their advertisements.
