!2 volt Generator/Alternator
Has anyone had any experience with these alternators that look like old ford generators? I am thinking that by the time I have one of my old 6 volt ford generators rebuilt and converted over to twelve volts, I will be spending near as much as one of these alternators in disquise. Thanks Rich

Re: !2 volt Generator/Alternator
What style generator housing can be used? I have a 30s housing that I might like to convert. I think the later housings (49-53) are larger than the early ones.

Re: !2 volt Generator/Alternator
What Ed does is use your end plates and machines a new housing out of aluminum. He uses a small 40A forklift alt then makes it all work with your pulleys.

Re: !2 volt Generator/Alternator
Another Ed Whitney - four years and going great. At one of Nick Alexander's open houses, Ed had a display of his work, and the process. A few weeks later, met with Ed at his business in Fullerton, Ca. and dropped off an old generator, a few weeks later stopped in and picked up a very nice alternator. He is a great guy, with years of old Ford history. I probably have 4K miles, with out a hickup.

Re: !2 volt Generator/Alternator
Charlie, the last generator rebuild I had done was about a buck and a quarter, no problems for the last 5 or 6 thousand miles. Talked to my generator/ starter guy yesterday, the 12 volt field coils are the problem, He doesnt think there are any more us made ones available and doesnt trust that chinese stuff Rich
