Default Installing radiator hoses

I am getting older, but I thought I remembered reading here sometime in the past about putting Vaseline or some such on the water necks of the block and the radiator prior to installing new hoses. Supposedly it makes the installation easier and doesn't affect the system? Thanks as usual for any thoughts.

I haven't used Vaseline, but I do use a thin film of white lithium grease. Typically I apply it on the inside of the hoses, but I guess either way would work OK. This does 2 things, 1) makes the hose easier to put on & 2) lets the hose reposition itself evenly when pressure from the clamp is applied.

One (1) similar experience:

Per #2, White Lithium Grease applied insides of hoses ..... and on painted ferrous cast iron metal ..... and on non-ferrous metal (such as that on the radiator) ...... will allow very easy Model A hose removal with no sticking for least after 10 years of service ...... and probably more years than that.

When installing new hoses I use Form A Gasket. Just a light coating on the inside of the hose. This make installation easier and helps to seal the hose when hose clamps are installed.

I'm a new owner and used Vaseline as recommended here. No leaks.

If you use that, you will be cutting them off with a knife when you need to remove them and there is no way you will reuse them.

A thin film of something that will not harden and dry is better.

I use Hylomar AF. It is fantastic.

I just dip two finger tips into a jar of hand cleaner - then run them around the inside of both ends.

Many years of use no problem removing and no cutting needed!

I make sure the water outlet necks are smooth and just put a little silicone spray on them. Tighten with a good quality screwdriver so you get a good bite on the head.

Also, squirt some WD40 under the hose clamps so they will slip on the hose instead of grabbing and crimping the rubber.

It DOES make the installation easier and yes it will not affect the system.

I use a thin coat of Vaseline in the hose ends and also on the inside of the hose clamps. I use restored original clamps.

If you use worm screw hose clamps be sure to put a couple drops of oil on the worm. It will tighten much better. Some of the worm clamps being sold these days are cheap junk and have a rough finish, so the screw doesn't tighten smoothly. Ideal was a big name in quality worm type hose clamps.

Anything slippery that does not degrade the rubber hoses will do. Some things that come to mind are:
Liquid soap;
Vaseline;
Butter;
WD-40;
Antifreeze;
Marvel Mystery Oil;
Synthetic motor oil;
Synthetic grease;
Hand lotion;
Liquid car wax;
Carnuba paste wax;
Glycerine;
Armorall;
Candle wax;
Lip balm;
Brill cream;
Sun tan lotion.

Add washing up liquid (I use Dawn) to your list.

Still Confused ????????

Just in case anyone reviews the above long list of home remedy lubricants ........ and one gets totally confused on which is the best product for lubricating one's hose ....... there is yet another option where one can watch late night TV ...... then find & call the 1-800 number for the Adam & Eve Shop to find out what they recommend ....... nothing like calling & asking a company with technical experts on line who really know the chemical composition and pros & cons of their many lubricating products.
