Default cleaning a block in side.

I am gettng a 59 block ready for rebuild an after getting it boiled out I still have a lot rust and crud inside . I am thinking about makeing plates seal the frount and leveling it and and asidizing it . has any body ever done this and what is the best asid to cut rust ?

Even acid wont get it clean. Get a length of 1/4 steel rod, grind a point or screwdriver type blade onto one end, and put it into every water jacket hole you can find, especially the waterpump holes at the lower front. Work it around as much as you can, particularly in the pan rail area. You will be amazed at how much crud comes out, even from a supposedly clean block. I did this, spent an hour or more doing it, then put a water blaster wand in there and blasted out about a third of a bucket of crud. My engine never overheats now.

As stated above. You will find a lot of sand in the bottom rear of the block. Chip around the bottom with a long rod with a sharpened end to do so.
