I'm in deep doo-doo
If anyone has an old vintage clamp on style external thread repair tool that I can use to repair the 5/8" - 18 threads on a '29 rear axle shaft that they would sell please let me know.
Thanks Bob/KC |

Re: I'm in deep doo-doo
That's an excellent video and a great idea! I may have to resort to that if I can't repair the current threads.

Re: I'm in deep doo-doo
I'm not sure what kind of toll you're looking for, I'm confused which is kinda normal.
Have you tried chasing the threads with a die or thread file ? |

Re: I'm in deep doo-doo
that tool starts at 1/14" o.d. which is much too large. Model A axle is 5/8" But thanks for trying!

Don Turley, who is a member here and posts frequently had one for sale a while back if I remember correctly.

Thank you ! This is exactly what I'm looking for. I've messaged Don Turley to see if he still has one available.

Send me a message if you'd like to borrow the tool. I won't be able to get it out to you until Wednesday at the earliest. We've gotten hammered with snow. Can't go wrong with getting one from Don as well. Great tool to have and it will save your hide in jams like this. Found this thread. Kind of coincidental https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=150569 Last edited by Tim Ayers; 02-01-2021 at 08:40 PM. |

Re: I'm in deep doo-doo
If the threads just need clean up, get a thread cleaning file.

Re: I'm in deep doo-doo
I think it would just bind. You don't have a way to align the threads of each half, and the socket isn't going to force the two halves together like the split die would.

Make sure the problem is not with the nut. Try a new one.

Re: I'm in deep doo-doo
Just curious why it has to be a clamp on style or split die? A “normal” die wont work?
