Default ‘46 Dash Plastic repair & paint

On my ‘46 Mercury, the original dash plastic is discolored and crazed or full of shallow cracks in some areas. I’m looking for ideas on products to use to refinish the parts. I’ve been reading SEM product data sheets and SOP’s for repair methods on plastic parts and it seems to be pretty involved. Would it be simple just to use model paints for ABS plastic? I’m looking for ideas, as Merc parts are pretty hard to come by and I don’t want to do more harm than good. Some Testor’s primer and spot glazing putty on the crazed area, then prime again and paint?

Anybody have some experience on early dash plastic repairs? Do’s and don’ts would be appreciated. Thanks

Hopefully someone can help. The early plastic was soybean plastic and very different from today's plastic.

My '46 Ford had some of the same issues. Ignorance being a virtue, I just painted it with the same single stage acrylic enamel used elsewhere. Haven't noticed any problems in the years since application.
