Default cam gear

my 1930 model a pickup backfired and stopped overheated. the distributed rotor did not turn and the shaft does not turn so I thought I needed a new cam gear. I took the plate off, not just 7 bolts as the book said but 5 pan bolts also. the cam gear looks like an aluminum one and the teeth look very good. does anyone know what I should do next?

thank you,
marc

Welcome to the barn! This area is for asking questions to the editors. For help with Your A you will need to post on the Model A discussion area.

Pull the distributor and look at the shaft(s) you may have snapped the tang(s) or slots. Or you may have stripped the teeth on the drive gear. If the shafts look good then you will have to pull the valve cover and remove the gear. if you stripped the drive gear you should remove the pan to clean out the broken bits.

They are going to come to this section and post anyway so what the heck. Mike's post is correct that he should post on the correct forum and mine is correct in what to look for if the cam gear is good. So both are correct.

If I want to both help with their question and direct people to the proper place to ask I will. That is my choice.
