Installing windshield, How? any tips?
Sometime soon I will be installing my new windshield. Any tips? It's not the easiest thing to put in. Yes, the glass is in the frame. The header is new. What's the best way to hold it open while I drill the holes? Should the gas tank be in first?

locate the holes before installing glass...oops too late.
Two person job......maybe 3 one on each end, locate two of the end holes, drill, apply 2 screws, now it is held in place while you continue the process use 2 sections of slightly oversize 2x2, wedge in place while the 2 people hold it, this will help stabilize, now locate 2 outboard holes

Drill small holes then install the screws with soap... You need these screws to have a good grip as this is a common failure area

Soap is good but Butcher"s wax is better!

You must have insulted a lot of people in your life if you don't have two friends ! Go to Friends are us and rent a couple. You can't do this job yourself! Wayne

Re: Installing windshield, How? any tips?
A friend of mine put together a v-8 motor in his basement! When he finished he could not get it back up stairs :-) One day after school let out some high school boys where walking by his house. He cald to them and said never mind boy you all are not strong enough. A few minutes later the motor was in his garage! Help can come from any place.
I installed my windshield by my self, two moving blankets on the gas tank, inside with two ice picks stuck two holes, then a couple of screws two hold it, then finished :-( Two helpers would have been a lot easier on me, I couldn't do it by my self now!!! |
