With today's tires and our 85+year wheels, I have found:

After 40 years with the dot in the valve-stem alignment, the tire show 1/8" wear.

After 40 years with the dot opposite the valve-stem, the tire shows 1/8" wear.

With the dot on the outside: 1/8" wear.

With the dot on the inside: 1/8" wear.

Ignoring the initial reasoning for the placement of the tire's dot, today's alignment is truly aesthetic and a nod to historical accuracy. Ignoring it's practical irrelevance, I like to strive toward visual historic accuracy, and follow the guide as recommended by tire booklets of the 1920s and '30's, and use the dot as a 'balancing' mark.

ALSO, pay attention to the little raised line on the tire, close to the rim, & see if the tire settled in on the rim properly. ALSO, set a jack stand close to the rim/tire, slowly rotate it & check for wobble/run out. Those tests take only a couple of minutes of your PRECIOUS time--LOL

Using tire soap helps the bead seat evenly plus allows the tire to slip on easier..

Had an old Datsun 510 that squawked like old ladies, when rolling slow. Tires were mounted DRY! Sprayed WD-40 around the beads & it was GONE!

Early 240Z Datsuns had full hubcaps with "TEETH"--Rolling slow, the wheels "flexed" & the "teeth" would squeak on the rims 2 layers of masking tape over the "teeth" cured the problem ! I "wonder" if Beauty Rims on 16" wire wheels, ever squeak???
Quiet Dad

Yes they do, a lease when I had 16's on my Tudor. I had to tighten them every once in a while!
