Re: 47 ford trans
As you realize, you'll need to drop the rear end (as an assembly) and roll it back about 6". Then you can lift the transmission out (up) through the floor.
Simply disconnect the torque tube at the rear of the transmission, disconnect the rubber brake line on the torque tube, the shock absorbers, the spring "U" bolts. There is no need to pull the assembly back more than 6". In other words, it will remain within the "tunnel" between the frame and body pan.

Just to add a couple more things, you need to disconnect the emergency brake cable, speedometer cable and the panhard bar. Also make sure to have the car jacked up on jack stands positioned on the frame and high enough that the spring will clear the gas tank so you can pull it back enough.

Re: 47 ford trans
Got the trans out. Pretty tight fit. It just clears the floor. Likely will be difficult to get back in but thats what makes it fun. Thanks

It will be easier to put back in than it was to take out.

Re: 47 ford trans
If you have an extra input shaft, use that to align the new clutch vs. those plastic tools that are commonly supplied these days. The plastic tools are okay. An input shaft can't be beat.
