Does it matter - Tie Rod Direction
Does it matter what side the tie rod (Threads) goes?
I hope I am clear in explaining this: I marked my tie rod on the driver's side to replace it on the driver's side, When I went to put my new tie rod ends on (Left and right thread), the grease fittings faced forward, the directions say to have them facing the rear, so now my tie rod has to be flipped to the other side. The old tie rod ends I am replacing have the grease fitting on the opposite side as the bolt clamp side. The new Tawain ones have the grease fitting and the bolt casting on the same side. Thanks for your help. |

Re: Does it matter - Tie Rod Direction
What was wrong with the old ends? Can't the pads just be replaced?
Unless you are having the car judged, what is wrong with the grease fittings being in front, or what is wrong with turning the rod end for end and having the clamping bolts and grease fitting in the back. One other option is to tap a 1/8 pipe tread in the rear, making sure to not go too deep so that the grease fitting won't protrude into the inside. And then putting a pipe plug in the other location. Another option: If the ends are unusable, you could look around for ones that have the grease fitting in the rear. Normally the right hand thread is on the right side (starboard side) of the car.
