Default 1928-1929 Fuel Tank "Spill Box"

I've been looking for an accessory spill box for quite some time now.
My dad and I are trying to recreate a car that was built into a race car just after WWII. Unfortunately for us, it had one of these boxes on it.

I received a few bits of info a while back and it seems as though they are 5" x 9" have a hinge in the back. Held to the tank by a big nut that replaces the gas cap. then the lid of the "box" has cork or a ball to seal against the top of the fuel filler neck..

There was a mat in the bottom to absorb any spilled fuel, to save from running down the cowl of your car.

Does anyone have any more info on these, who produced them, etc.

Not to add the spam to this thread, but I am seriously looking for one if you know of any that could be bought.

thanks alot
Zach

thanks guys... I initally thought this was off a model-T also.. but then found this better photo that I posted... and someone in the past showed me a few photos of one on their car mentioning that it was an accessory for an A

I guess we will likely have to just make one...

There is a guy here in the Dallas Model A club that is an accessory nut and he presented a seminar at the world meet a few years back and had one. He seemed very fond of it.

Bummer thing is that if one was sitting on a shelf in grandpa's garage and the relatives came in to clean it out, it would look like nothing important and probably hit the trash.

I'll ask him about it when I see him again and see if he has more than one, or if he's in the mood to sell.

Thanks Elrod...
I've been figuring we'd find one at Hershey... laying in the junk piles... but haven't had any luck in a few years of hunting now..

I appreciate any help... even if the guy would be willing send along some photos and dimensions... I have basic but more detail to reproduce it would help A LOT!

The car that its going to go on... is coming along slowly but surely... its a shame that it had this... its not that attractive of an accessory... but it stands out on the car...

Thanks
Zach

Tex has one on his "service truck" also. I'll ask Bob tomorrow and see if he knows where another one is.

Yeah. I was referring to Vernon. I'm sure I'll see Tex in Winnsboro this weekend and can take a ton of pictures of the one on the Service truck if you want me to Zach.

No Tex this weekend. He told me that he has drill and can't make it.
I think the one that Vernon had was off of a brown coupe. And I can't remember the fellow's name that owns it. Vernon will remember who it is.

A research possibility...first, find out if the device or any information the accessory guy has contains a patent number. If not, do some searching on Google advanced patents
Set the patent application date to a reasonable range, I'd try 1926 since possible late T connections, to 1935 or so...and try different combinations of key words, with and with out "Ford"...fuel, gasoline, tank, spill, etc.
If there is a patent to be found there will be some good drawings and details of the inner cap/clamp arrangement.

Thanks Bruce
I've actually looked there a bit... without much luck...
Found the Ford standard type cap....

I keep going back over and trying new ideas when I get time....
